On 23rd Janury 2015, (following the death of Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz), the Queen became the oldest reigning monarch in the world and today (21st April 2016) she becomes the first 90 year old head of state of the UK and 15 other Commonwealth realms.

                  originally a Roman festival which began on 28th April and lasted several days to mark the commencement of summer.                         Gem - I was 11 at that time, and can remember the excitement about Roger Bannister's achievement. It was thought that the human body couldn't go that fast. It was only a year or so since the conquest of Everest and it felt that anything was possible for human beings in what was being called a New Elizabethan Age.

                                11th May 1985. Remembering the 56 who died & the 265 who were injured in the Bradford City stadium fire. My Uncle escaped but his best friend who was in the disabled area died.
