When you see people in old films smoking at home, or in the workplace,even in hospitals it looks shocking, but back then we took it for granted.
Some things do change for the better.

I went to a small private primary school.
Our 4th year (now called Year 6) class room was in tiny attic room at the top of the house.
Our teacher smoked all day
I often think the fact that despite being a lifelong non smoker I get chesty with colds is due to all the years of passive smoke from my mum at home and teacher at school!!!“A grandchild fills a space in your heart that you never knew was empty.” – UnknownComment

Gem, I agree. When all grown ups seemed to smoke we as children must have been passive smokers on 40 a day!
In addition to that, living in a highly industrialised city with no emissions control like many of us did, must have added to 'chestiness'. It's a wonder our lungs function at all."Joy is what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognise how good things really are. "
