      1759

Arthur Guinness signed a 9,000 year lease at £45 per annum and started brewing Guinness at the St. James's Gate Brewery, Dublin. Ten years later Guinness exported his ale for the first time, when six and a half barrels were shipped to Britain.

I have tasted it Oma. I felt I had to try it when I went to Dublin. I didn't feel the need to try it again (In fact I don't even think I finished my half)

I actually like Guinness. It's not my regular tipple by a long way, but I like the taste - and drinking it complete with shamrock at the top of the Guinness building in Dublin was a bucket list item for me. Unfortunately it was a rather dull misty day so the view wasn't what I'd hoped, but it was still good.

There was a time when new mums were advised to drink Guinness/strong stout to aid breast-feeding. The powers that be had decided this wasn't a great idea by the time I become a mum, though, but I remember several 'aunties' reminding me I should be downing a pint a day!!

I never knew that, Gem. It's still used today, isn't it?

Oma - so do I. I've got a dustbin mind - love collecting odds and ends of facts.

                          1982

Erica Roe became the first sports 'streaker' when she ran across the Twickenham ground at the England v Australia rugby match waving her bra in the air. She was arrested, with policemen covering her 40" breasts with their woefully undersized helmets.

I remember that, too. She did it in such style and with great joy! I wonder what has happened to her since?
