I am on chapter 3 they seem long chapters but enjoying I wondered where the measuring of a cow came into fit Enfys, but don't tell me, it's an interesting story about one person with 2 different names and almost a change of personalities liking it it so far 😀

I have to thank Qwerty for recommending this book, and reaquainting me with Margaret Forsters work. I hadn't read anything of hers for several years, so was happy to do so again. Sad too that this was her last book. I knew she had recently died, as I heard her husband Hunter Davis reading from his book about her on Radio 4 not long ago.

Margaret Forster was very good at writing about prickly characters who hold something of themselves back, and find it difficult to be as warm or friendly as deep down they would like. They always suffer for having this personality trait, and their lives are lonlier because of it.

Nancy is a good example of this type of character.

I found the story of Tara/Sarah interesting, and for quite a while I wasn't sure if she had been in prison, as I suspected, or somewhere else. I like the way we found out the details of why she was in prison gradually, as the book unfolded.

I feel Margaret Forsters books are far more about characters and the relationships between them than actual action, but I felt there was a story here too.

I intend to read the books by this author that I have still to read!.
