What are you reading right now?

Honestly, I don't get time to read as much as I used to. So it tends to be the newspaper last thing at night (not always a good idea for calm sleep)! I do love Biographies and read a couple on Katherine Hepburn, an autobiography by Lauren Bacall, and Elenore of Aquitaine. I've read almost everything about the Wars of the Roses and the Tudors!

    How about you?

I am reading The Kiling which was apparantly was a cult TV series which passed me by. It is good but quite slow going, and the Swedish names slow me down a bit. I am a fast reader and don't like to be slowed down!
I am also reading Proud, GarethThomas autoiography. I haven't got far into it yet. He always seems such a nice guy, and to 'come out', a married man in the macho rugby world, must have been far from easy.

As always I have a few books on the go at the same time. It depends on my mood which one I pick up.

First is Pompeii by Mary Beard, absolutely fascinating with lots of almost gossipy detail combined with real scholarship.

Second is A London Year which is extracts from diaries written in or about London at various times in the past four centuries, there are two or three entries for each day.

Third is When did you Last see your Father by Blake Morrison, a very moving account if the death if his father and their relationship.

Fourth is A Blaze of Autumn Sunshine by Tony Benn.

And as well as those are the daily papers and stuff I have to read for my voluntary work.

      Just call me grasshopper brain.

Just finished reading The Agincourt Bride and The Tudor Bride by Joanna Hickson. Very easy to read and fast moving story of Catherine de Valois and her marriage to Henry V and then Owen Tudor.

I used to be like Minnie having three or four books on the go and I still am when I am on holiday but in recent years I have stopped reading so much at other times although I still read the papers and on line news. I made a conscious decision a month or so ago that I would spend at least half my rail travelling time reading on my kindle (which I have on my hipad). I have just finished The Penal Colony by Richard Herley and am currently reading My Secret Sister by Helen Edwards, nothing too mind boggling. I have a lot of books lined up on my kindle for my holiday.

I am working me way through Anne Cleeves Shetland series of murder mysteries. I am on book 5 and there are only 6
I will be sorry to finish the last one as I have not enjoyed a series of books so much in ages.

I am reading 'The Vanishing Witch' by Karen Maitland. The first book by her that I read was 'Company of Liars' which I enjoyed so much I read most all the others she has written. All are historical novels and a jolly good read.

A John Grisham called "The Confession" which I bought from WHSmith on their special offers just after Xmas I do love his books with all the twists and turns to the legal side of things, its about a guy who is found guilty of a murder he didn't do and as the date comes nearer for his execution the real murders confesses but no one believes him, very very good, half way through it at the minute but I keep dropping off to sleep when reading it when in bed.
Grauntie I do love historical novels have you read The Pillars of The Earth I found it much better than the televised series.

I'm reading the latest Val Mc Dermid book, Cross and Burn. Haven't read anything of her's before, but I'm quite enjoying it.

Depends on my mood and concentration but I have been reading Jeremy Paxman's "The Victorians" for the last three months. Also currently reading "The Silversmith's Wife". Recently read "Gingerbread" by Robert Dugsdale - an interesting take on a fairy tale - bit like "The Snow Child" another twist on a fairy tale. Also have "The Paper Dolls" on the go (reading this one with the grandchildren!!)

Any history buffs out there, Mary Beard's Pompaii is excellent and beautifully written.

Oh dear, I've read this thread feeling more and more inadequate. I'm currently reading a book on my Kindle, and I have no idea what it's called, or who wrote it, but I'm enjoying it. 😄
