    2022 Dickens read

After my Classics Challenge last year I decided to challenge myself to read some of Dickens novels which I hadn't read.

So far I have read The Old Curiosity Shop and Nicholas Nickleby for this challenge.
I'm not sure what my next one will be.

I will definitely read a Tale Of Two cities at some point, as is the only Dickens book I have read and not enjoyed. This was at school and I think I just found it dry after the previous reads.
Hopefully I will see it very differently now!

Well done Gemini, I love the stories but I don’t think I could read the books now.

Some of them are rather long Plant.
I am a quick reader but Nicholas Nickleby took me ages!

Gem - I read A Tale of Two Cities at school as well - in the 4th form, I think - and also saw the film with Dirk Bogarde as Sydney Carton. I think it helped that we had 'done' the French Revolution in History, but I'd definitely recommend watching the 1958 film if the book is still not capturing your interest.

I have never read any books by Dickens, and i don't think they would be my cup of tea.
          But, you enjoy Gem.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Nanto - one thing that always amuses me about Dickens' books is the names he gives his characters. My favourite book for names is The Pickwick Papers - Samual Pickwick himself, and Nathaniel Winkle, Tracy Tupman, Alfred Jingle, Augustus Snodgrass - several more which I can't remember off the top of my head.

The names amuse me very much Daisy
I have a book (which I asked for for Christmas) all about Dickens including why he chose character's names. I have yet to read it as it is a real book not on my Kindle
                I will report back.

I couldn't have put this into words when I was at school, but I always felt giving his characters such unlikely and odd names meant he didn't take himself too seriously. I don't know if that's true or not! Your book will be interesting.

I do think he took the social evils he featured in a lot of his books seriously, though.
