I came across this series of books and thought my GD1, aged 8 would enjoy them. The first one went in her Christmas stocking, and her review was "the best book ever. You'd enjoy it Grandma" and, turning to her Dad "and even you would as well".

I was a bit doubtful about the "for 8-12 year old girls" strapline. Perhaps I should be encouraging both GDs to read more gender neutral books, but it also said the heroine, Davina Dupree, is a modern day Darrell Rivers. If you enjoyed Malory Towers by Enid Blyton when you were young, Darrell Rivers will need no introduction!

I've just got her the second one in the series and hope she enjoys it as much, and I know there are several grannies with GDs around the same age.

My GD like yours is scathing of anything which says For Boys or For Girls, but could be persuaded to get over that I'm sure. Like most of my family GD is an avid reader.

On the Book cover itself it says "First/Second,etc Book in the Egmont School Series", and I think Davina is feisty enough for even our GDs!

Nanto - GD1 has always got her head in a book. She likes to have a pile of TBRs (to be reads) and drags her mum off to the library when it gets low. She also loves Pokemon and her Nintendo, so she manages to keep a foot in both camps.

G/d is not an avid reader but she does read a little I might introduce her to these books perhaps if it’s bought for her she might make an effort

Qwerty - I think getting started often creates the interest. It's just finding the right thing to appeal to the individual child, and perhaps reading it together to start with. I hope your GD1 does like this series.

I gave GD1 Book 2 in the series yesterday and she was over the moon. I just hope she enjoys it as much.

Daisy our first book had arrived and we read 2 chapters today ,she’s a posh girl how the other half live, they have book reading at school and are allowed to take a book of their choice but I think with half term it will be finished by then

GD is still on book 3 of the Harry Potter series so I don't think she will have started her book yet.

Last week GD told me she finished the book and really enjoyed it
I am planning to give all 3 GC a book and small egg each for Easter, so book 2 in this series will be hers.

Gem - I'm so glad she enjoyed it. My GD1 read book 2 in a couple of hours, and I have got book 3 ready to give her when I've found something for GD2 as well.

That's a good idea, a small egg and a book for Easter. I don't like giving them too much chocolate, and it's hard to find something for the boys, especially.
