I knew I read a lot, but I have just, for interest counted up how many books I have bought on my Kindle since the beginning of 2018 - 48.
One I have just started to read, and one I couldn't get into (but may go back to at some point and try again) The rest I have read. Add to those the handful of actual books I have read this year, that's a lot of reading!!

I am a very fast reader. Luckily I do get a fair number of them on Kindle Daily deal at around 99p, but not all of them

Books are my indulgence I suppose. Are they yours?

Definately. I have lots of unread ones on my Kindle but I have to say I am enjoying reading “real” books again. I visit the library regularly too.

I love to read and I have 5 waiting on my kindle, but like Enfys I have a real book on the go. SiL has lent me Game of Thrones (first book). I have only read a few pages but I am hooked.

I usually put about 10 books on my Kindle at a time and work my way through them. It's not often I abandon one (although Emma was a notable exception last year), and most of it is light hearted easy-reading stuff.

I've also usually got a 'real' book on the go as well - at the moment it's "Small Island" by Andrea Levy, set in 1948 about the Windrush generation. I've only read a couple of chapters so far but love how I can hear people's voices in the dialogue.

I would be really upset if I couldn't have books to read.

Daisy, I think if you are a reader you feel bereft if you don't have a book to read. I like a few things lined up on my Kindle too.

I wish I read more 'real' books, especially free ones from the library. After Kindle reading though, I find hardbacked books are heavy and cumbersome to read in bed, which is where I do most of my reading. Pathetic I know!!

Gem - it's not pathetic at all. It makes sense - Kindle is so much lighter, and I if OH wants to go to sleep I don't need by bedside lamp on high to see to read - I can just have it on the lowest setting. I also find that a 'blockbuster' size paperback can be hard to read towards the middle if the pages don't open out flat enough. And if you try to flatten them they start falling apart. As long as I remember to keep my Kindle charged I don't have those problems.

We bought this house because the library is just up the road! I mostly read real books and keep the kindle for holidays but just downloaded the latest Ellie Dean book and couldn’t resist reading it. One good thing about getting more forgetful is that I am re-reading books and can’t remember how they end!

For me, the big downside of the Kindle is not seeing the cover everytime I open the book, so I forget the title and author. I keep a list of what I download, so if I'm not sure when I'm ordering new books I can check whether I've already read it. But I think if you order one you've already got, the system will tell you. Has anyone found this?

That’s right Daisy, at least if you buy one through Amazon it tells you if you’ve already got it. I like handling a book, looking at the cover and the blurb about the author which I really miss in the Kindle. It’s useful for holidays etc but I love my ‘Real’ books. I move my books to a ‘Read’ folder when I’ve finished them, helps me to keep track but I also write down the titles/authors when I get them from the library, otherwise I forget what I’ve read!

Do you remember when I said I’d bought some old books I read as a child recently on eBay, well, I’ve just bought another one, I was so thrilled to track it down and it’s an earlier edition of the one I had so has colour prints in it. It was one of my favourite books when I was about 10/11 and I really wanted to be the girl in the book. Bought back such happy memories.

Amazon knows what we have bought. A couple of times I have attempted to buy a book I already own. Amazon tells you you have it, and when you bought it.

Have any of you read the Peter and Jane books by Gil Sims, they are very funny.
