It was interesting! The language, which was vaguely Shakespearean, and took me some time to get used to it! Wasn't that keen on it.

The trailers didn't appeal to me at all. It all sounded very weird and hurtful to William and Harry.

I watched this with great interest, but had very mixed feelings about it. Given the popularly expressed view a few years back about the Crown passing to William on the death of the Queen, and bypassing Charles, it was an interesting viewpoint, though I am as certain that Charles would never give up the opportunity as I am that the Queen will never abdicate. I did find it rather odd that they lapsed into medieval style grammar on occasion, and Kate was portrayed in a completely different light from her usual public persona. The late Tim Piggott Smith started off well as Charles, but his performance tailed off quite quickly, and the actress playing Camilla was a complete waste of time. Overall disappointing, I am sorry to say. What did anybody else think?

Qwerty - that is very interesting, because I felt much the same. The 'blank verse' (I don't know what it's proper name is) made it sound rather like a Shakespeare tragedy, and at times I thought TP-S portrayed Prince Charles as someone similar to George III (mad King George was the film). William came over as someone who was very easily swayed (both by Kate and the Prime Minister), and as for Harry ... his relationship didn't ring true at all. I thought Camilla came over as hard and unfeeling, and Kate as scheming and power hungry - and I don't think either of them is like that. So I was a bit disappointed, a bit disturbed by it and I felt it was probably very hurtful to the Royal family as a whole.

As a stand alone story with no basis in reality it was quite a good drama with tension, uncertainty and a climax, but the fact that it was about real people and (realistically) in the comparatively near future was not a good basis.

I read recently that although HM isn't likely to abdicate she might appoint Charles as some kind of regent. He's waited a lifetime for his big moment so I can't see him letting William take over. I don't think William would be too keen either come to that!

Shem - neither can I! Although in the tv programme Charles didn't have much choice - an anti-monarchist Prime Minister who would have found grounds to abolish the monarchy if Charles didn't assent to the Act of Parliament about press freedom.

Gem - it was interesting but a bit far-fetched.
