    'Holding Back The Years' BBC1

I caught the last 5 minutes of this programme on BBC1 this morning. It appears to have been a series of 5 (last one tomorrow) about getting older, keeping fit healthy and happy etc.

I will try to catch it on i player I think.
    Has anyone been watching this?

I have seen parts of while having my morning coffee, it was very interesting. But I don't think being a hands on Grandma was mentioned at all. All these retirement ideas are fine if you only have yourself to consider, which most of us do not. I know after having the girls the last thing I want to do is Salsa classes or the like, collapse with a cuppa maybe.

Hmmm, I know what you mean Libra. Many of us have regular GC duties, and as in my case a parent too, and still working, so time to ourselves isn't great. Having said that, I suppose we should find it!
I certainly intend to return to aquafit classes soon, as that is something I enjoyed and did me good. Our pool closed, but there is another I could go to, and I got a timetable for it before my holidays. When my treatment is all over I want to start.

If I could summon the energy I would go back to yoga classes, I used to enjoy that pre GC days. Oh well their not small for long are they, I do get out walking and a bit of gardening. But when I get me time, I usually just want to sit and read or do my puzzles.

If I wasn't so afraid of water I think I would enjoy aqua fit but any water higher than my knees and I can't cope , I did do step aerobics 2 hours every day about 4 years ago and became very fit then my knees gave up the ghost , now I don't have the time energy or motivation 😕😊
Im not fat just 6ft too small

Aquafit is fun Oma, and done in waist to chest high water. I knew someone who was afraid of water and she would only do it right at the front, where it is shallowest! She was very brave though and eventually enjoyed it so much started to go to 3 classes a week. Then our pool closed down

I saw some of these programs this week , just made me cross . I can just about hobble to our local seniors club , but it means I have to pay a sitter , I get a lift to painting class but again have to get a paid sitter . I know how lucky I am and have loads of help , but no way are a lot of people watching daytime tv able or fit enough to do what these presenters expect

WAs this where the Ladies try to do new things once a month. I'd love to be in a group that egged each other on to be daring. I'd love to do "Indoor Skydiving" like they did.
I might have to find my nearest G O D Group. I think that's what it was called.

I agree with you Aggie. Not all older people are lucky, healthy or solvent enough to do these activities.

I haven't seen the programmes, but like all of us I don't have much 'me' time. It feels indulgent going to routine appointments to the dentist or doctor.

Our local church does lunches once a week, a2course hot meal for a very modest price, transport provided if needed and open to anyone of retirement age. The wonderful lady who organises this has done it for about 30 years and is about my age, as are most of her team. The people who enjoy the lunches will soon be younger than them.

Aggie, I said the same thing to DH. There are classes at our local gym aimed at seniors but at £7 per class it would be difficult for lots of elderly people to,afford it, especially as they recommend at least two a week. That's if you are able to get, there in the first place. Our walking group is great, if you can walk gently for an hour, that is. There's no pressure to keep up, lots of stops to look for birds etc. Mainly older people and it's free.
