Shocking West End prices!

Jesus Christ Superstar is one of my favourite musicals. I saw it more than once as a student in London, then when I was heavily pregnant with DD1 (She loves is too, probably due to having loudly it in her little ears before birth )
We had the LP and played it a lot.

I saw it again in the West End few years ago.
There is new production coming to the London Palladium this summer with Sam Ryder as Jesus.
I would love to see it. Yesterday I found out at that DD and GS1 are going to see it. I said I wished I have known as I have no one to go with. DD checked and there were seats but not near them, and said they hadn't yet booked train or accommodation and I was welcome to go with them.

Today I looked into this. The ticket prices were eye watering!! It's only a few years since we last saw anything in the West End, and I'm sure this is a massive increase.

For seats I would never consider it is over £80
For a seat I would like, between £335 and £190! To sit by myself, plus the cost of travel and hotel, I think not!

I was hoping it woud be live streamed to local cinemas but I can't find any evidence of that. I will keep hoping though.

Gem, that is one heck of an increase.

We've only been to London twice, in November 1999 and November 2000.
Both times we went with a local coach company, who charged £99 each.
On the second trip a West End show was included in the price.
The show was The Lion King.

Both visits were for two nights.
I loved visiting shops i had only seen on tv or in magazines.
Loved Bond Street and Regent Street.
Also visited Carnaby Street.
Had to go to Hamleys and buy something for GD1. She was the only one then.

I think theatre prices have gone up in general, but prices like that plus travel and accommodation your talking £600 or more .

Gem, that is expensive. On the other hand, to see a post- or pre-West End show in our local (excellent) theatre would cost OH and I over £100, plus parking, etc. As good as the productions usually are, it's not quite the same atmosphere as a top-class West End production, and a couple of times recently we've declined a group outing on the grounds of cost.

Nanto, good memories of your trips to London. I used to love a day out in London, and even from where we live now it's only an hour and a half by train. When our sons were little we used to take them for a day out in Hamleys just before Christmas. I loved the buzz, whether it was shopping, to see a show or to visit an attraction it was a good day out. It's less appealing these days, perhaps because we're much older, or it's got busier, noisier and feels less safe, but we did have a very good day out to Buckingham Palace last Autumn.

Gem, it is the same with live concerts, ridiculous prices! I loved the Lion King, the only musical I have liked!!!

Used to take the Brownies to shows in London, on coaches of course. We were excited when we were in Record Breakers, do you remember Roy Castle and the twin brothers (can’t remember their names atm. Was one of them killed?Oh was it Bannister?
