Whoops - or booking well ahead!

Until this morning I thought I was soon to be going, with a friend, to see Chris McCausland at a local theatre.
He was here for one night in February and tickets sold out before I could book. I am on the ATG theatres mailing list and had an email alerting me to another later date in York. I presumed this was an addition to the tour and quickly booked.

Just after that OH and I went to see comedienne Lucy Beaumont at the same theatre. OH felt she couldn't hear properly, missed a lot of the jokes and said she didn't want to go to Chris MsCausland in May , and I should find someone else to go with!

Anyway my friend ( OH of the annoying friend) wanted to go. It was May 17th and we were looking forward to it.

This morning we were invited to OH's godson's 18th birthday celebrations on May 17th. I told OH I wouldn't be able to go as I was at the theatre that night. I was slightly puzzled as the invitation was for a Saturday and the show was a Sunday.
I checked the tickets, and we are booked for May 17th, it is a Sunday - but its 2026!!

I feel very stupid. I have told my friend and she was very kind about it. I have told her she's not obliged to come as it so so far ahead. She says she hopes to still come. I can't expect her to pay me her share this far ahead though so I will be out of pocket for ages!
No one's faut but mine. Because I had the mail alert and I knew it would sell out fast I was too hasty to book and obviously didn't double check

At least we are free to go to the birthday party!

Gem, you can't be early enough! I remember when a good neighbour of mine was terminally ill, it must be almost 30 years ago, there was a very popular musical in Scheveningen that she really wanted to see, she phoned the theatre and asked for a ticket within the next few days, the lady told her it was impossible and that it was fully booked for the next year! She told them she wouldn't have that long as she was terminally ill. The lady was very quiet then, really shaken, she told the friend she could arrange 2 VIP tickets for next evening! So she got to see the musical in style!

Gem, it's so easily done. I always think that when you see things like cruises and holidays advertised for 2 years ahead.

I don't like booking things for next week let alone next year , but I miss out on all sorts of good things. At least you won't be missing out., and can go to the 18th birthday party. xx

It’s a good job the party invitation turned up or else you might not have found out and turned up on completely the wrong day let alone year!

Gem, just a thought, don't forget to mark the 17th May in your 2026 diary when you get it! It would be too awful if you missed it after booking so far ahead.
