We went to see this production last night without knowing quite what to expect. The theatre was packed - it was a sell out - and we had good seats in the stalls. For once I didn't have the tallest person in the south of England sitting in front of me, so I could actually see the stage!
The actors were very recognisable as all the characters we know from the tv programmes. Boycie had exactly the right laugh, Del Boy was every inch David Frost, Trigger was brilliant and Cassandra could have been the tv's twin. Rodney was just a bit more smiley than I remember from the tv shows, but still very good. He just had a naturally happy face in contrast to Nicholas Lyndhurst's much sadder look.
Paul Whitehouse was Grandad to a Tee!
It was such a treat to see a show where the dialogue was completely clear and audible, and the music was at a comfortable volume, but still had you tapping your feet, itching for a knees up! The scene changes etc were seamless and the whole production was a joy.
The story wasn't strong, and I don't ever remember seeing the episode where Del Boy and Raquel first met so that was a first for me. There were some funny adaptations on well-known tv scenes - including Del Boy and the bar counter! It made us all roar with laughter.
I noticed everyone was smiling as we piled out of the theatre!
