    Joy

This afternoon we watched the film Joy, which is the story of the worlds first 'test tube baby', Louise Joy Brown. I remember Louise's birth well. It was 18 days after the birth of my second baby girl and her name was my baby's middle name

A very good watch on Netflix, I would recommend it.

Gem, I remember Louise Brown's birth as well, but it must have been extra meaningful for you as you cuddled your new-born DD2. What lovely memories it must bring back for you.

Definitely a film to watch on a cold dark evening.

I think the first test tube baby was a miracle.
Think how many babies this has helped to bring into the world.

It's quite shocking seeing the amount of opposition at the time from various circles.

There’s a very interesting article in today’s Daily Telegraph about Steptoe and what seems to be unauthorised sperm donors. At least two people have discovered they have the same biological father who was a scientist in the lab above Steptoe’s clinic and who supplied him with donations from students, lab staff and others. It’s actually quite scary and must have been horrific to find out after 50 years one of your parents is not who you thought they were.

I know it’s a serious subject and article but when I saw the word “Steptoe” the image of the old TV programme “Steptoe and Son” popped into my head!

I would probably have thought the same, Clover.
