    Whispering

I have just watched the conclusion of ‘The Sister’. Does anyone else find that the lead actors in these dramas whisper now?
Gillian Anderson in ‘The Fall’ drove me potty with her whispering. I’m sure it’s not my hearing. 🗣👂🏻

As a last resort try subtitles.

As a last resort, if I am knitting and therefore unable to use subtitles, I put on my headphones. I get very annoyed with the dark scenes too. Mrs Angry from Bucks!

I remember seeing something - Points of View I think - where this subject of muttering, mumbling, strong accents, background music and noise and dark scenes was discussed with a Producer of one of the dramas. I couldn’t believe how arrogant she was. She said that the darling little snowflake actors need to be give the freedom to use their artistic expression. as do the artistic directors.

it it didn’t seem to occur to her that the BBC is a public broadcaster paid for by licence fees, or that if we get sufficiently fed up not to struggle watching highly paid people muttering and mumbling against a cacophony of irrelevant noises they won’t have a job! Advertisers wouldn’t use the commercial channels, and they will all be very sorry then!

My pet hate is the bongs on the BBC news headlines! Grrrrrr. .....

I often have to say to OH...what did they say? His usual reply is ....I don't know either!

I find American accents are the worst. I can't seem to 'tune into' them at all.

What is really bad though, is when you've turned up the sound and the adverts come on and you're nearly blasted out of your chair because they're sooooo loud!
Believe you can and you're halfway there.

We have problems with the American accents as well.
Also annoys us when the music is too loud in the background.

WG, it’s just the same here. The Americans seem to speak faster than we can listen.
Daisy, you have it spot on.

Quite right Daisy, if we stopped listening to the arrogant actors and directors, they wouldn't have a job. I am really pleased I am not the only one who has this problem.
