    Junior Bake Off

    Is anyone else following this?

We have often seen it on Catch Up with GD when she is here.
This present series has been advertised more, probably because Prue Leith is now on it, and we have remembered to watch it. Prue and Liam, a previous Bake Off winner make a good team. Harry Hill is funny, and helpful and kind with the children if they are struggling.

I am always impressed by the skill and talent of the children and young teenagers. Amazing.
So much sadder to see them voted off that it is in the adult version though!

I watched it last night but I cannot stand Harry Hill so he spoiled it all for me. Otherwise I enjoyed it. I’ll have to watch on catch up and fast forward his bits.

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm not a Harry Hill fan either! Sorry, Gem. But if he's kind to the children then I'll forgive him.

I always have mixed feeling about seeing children competing in pressurised situations (and I don't know how 'heated' this programme gets). I know children have to learn to lose - they can't win at everything in their lives - but I would rather they learned to handle their disappointments in private within their families, rather than in public on tv.

Just my thoughts, and I'm sure there are some children who don't care if they lose, and some who will see it as a first step on a career in hospitality, and of course for one child there will be the joy of winning.

I haven't watched it in the past as I don't much care for precoscious children. You always get one in the mix. I'm watching this series on my DD's recommendation as she said they're all lovely & so they are.

I'm with Daisy though about putting young children under so much pressure. It's not just the people in the tent who see but the whole tv audience too. Still they know that when they go on the programme. I find Harry Hill watches out for the one's who get upset. I think he takes on a fatherly role.

In all, I'm in awe of these children's abilities. A Christmas dinner in a small pie ...WOW!

I feel it is a lot of pressure on the children, but unlike the pressures of school, SATs, exams etc they are choosing to do this. There is a lot of competition to get onto the programme, so I'm sure the more delicate children are weeded out!

I also notice that they support each other very well. Many times one or more children have rallied round to help one who is struggling to finish their bake in time, which is lovely to see. They are also good at trying to comfort and encourage other children when things aren't going so well.

I've noticed that too Gem. Lovely to see. Many lessons learnt in the tent I'm sure.
