Another theatre trip for Mr and Mrs Daisy

Theatre trips for us seem to be like buses - none for ages then several together!

Last night we went to see"All You Need is Love" - about 21/2 hrs of Beatles nostalgia, backed by the National Philharmonic Concert Orchestra. I wasn't sure what to expect - a sort of dialogue of the Beatles Story interspersed with their music, I suppose. But it was all music - which suited me fine. The four 'Beatles' were excellent, even if the multi-talented Italian 'Paul McCartney' didn't have a noticeable Scouse accent.

It was a good mix of some of the best known Beatles songs, and a couple I didn't recognise at all. It was a good production, and good sound balance. Living with a drummer (my OH) and being a bit picky, I thought the drummer's snare drum (the little one on the left of the kit) was a bit dead - but his drumming did sound very Ringo!

This show is touring round the country - Cardiff on Saturday, Bristol on Sunday, followed by Cwmbran, Basingstoke and Wolverhampton. Busy lads!

That sounds good Daisy. As you say, even hearing the music is a treat

Sounds very enjoyable Daisy. What a keen ear you must have to notice the drummer’s “dead” snare.

Clover - no I haven't got a good ear, but OH was quite fussy about getting the right tone on his snare drum. It's surprising what a difference it makes to the overall sound!

Nanto - yes,we did enjoy it. We went for a drink first with the friends we usually go with, and, really pushing the boat out, had ice creams in the interval. Then our friends came back to ours for a nightcap. So it was a late night!

Gem - it was good. They did some very quick costume changes to reflect the Beatles' different phases, and the orchestra created some amazing effects for the more 'way out' numbers.
