    Sixty Years of Music

    1959

I thought it would be fun to look back on the last 60 years of music. I know most of our grannies are probably too young to remember 1959's offerings, but it was the year I left school. Lots of these songs provided the soundtrack to the rite of passage from school into the half-way world of college, escaping from the hated school uniform, sticky-out skirts with loads of petticoats underneath, dreaming about handsome film and pop stars, and long girly chats about who was the most handsome boy at youth club!

Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

      1960s

I was going to do a playlist of 1969, but when I looked, I don't think 69 was a particularly iconic year of 60s music - in effect the 70s had already started! So this is the best playlist I've found of the whole 1960s. I hope you fin something you like in it!

I was 4 at the beginning of 1959, 5 during that year, so I don't think I was too aware of the music at that point.
A few years later when The Beatles appeared on the scene, even though still a child I was very aware of them. My Auntie bought me their early records.

Thanks, Gem. As always lists like this are personal to the person compiling them, and there ones I expected to see and others I was surprised about, but it gives a flavour of what lots of people see as the golden age of pop.
