This is yet another funny evening's entertainment from the Mischief Theatre. After the side-splitting comedy of a Play that Goes Wrong, our expectations were high.
Sadly, I didn't find it as hilarious as the Play. It's set in 1950s America and delivered in slightly high-pitched, piercing broad Bronx accent which we didn't always understand. Yes, it was funny and there were scenes where we were helpless with laughter, but the one-liners came too thick and fast to catch, so some good opportunities for laughs were missed. There was the expected clever staging, including one scene where we appeared to be viewing from above, and a brilliant 3-person scene of antics on a bed which kept folding into the wall, and somehow one person remained unaware of his love rival.
There were a couple of scenes which didn't seem to have any connection with the general plot, and we were not alone in wondering why they were included.
But on the whole, it was a good night's entertainment and we would certainly go to any future productions by this very talented Company.
