I know we have soap fans on here, and others who dislike all soaps and never watch any of them.
What are your thoughts? Do you avoid them all, watch them all, watch only one?
I watch Emmerdale, Coronation Street and Eastenders. Eastenders is the one I am least keen on. I like Emmerdale and Corrie equally. Luckily for me OH likes them all too.
I used to love Brookside back in the day. I have never watch Hollyoaks, and only very occasionally seen Doctors, the BBC1 daytime soap.
I fully agree with those who say soaps are full of drama, unhappiness and unrealistic plotlines. However they are also riveting, very human, and cover some important topics. Some of the best acting on TV is to be seen on soaps. There have been some amazing child actors over the years.
I remember Coronation Street starting when I was small child. I also remember the start of Emmerdale, which was Emmerdale Farm and shown at 1.30 twice a week, I suspect maybe only in Yorkshire then?
I didn't really bother with Eastenders at first but then got into it.
For many years I didn't watch soaps, or much telly at all. I started to watch again when I was at home every night with 2 small children, and a husband who was working at the theatre every night. TV and the soaps, became important to me. Those and library books!
