    A non wedding day

Today was to be the celebration for DD and SIL3's wedding, well civil partnership, but we think of it as wedding!
We would have been looking at the cloudy skies with dread, as it was hoped a lot of today's celebration would be outside.
Due to covid 19 they have been unable to have the ceremony or the celebration. These are put on hold. Twelve years together, they decide to make it official then this happens!

As a family we felt we had to do something however. We knew they had decided to wear their rings, which they had already bought and to do something themselves to mark the day.
We asked friends and families to do short videos to them. Friends from Canada, London, Bath, Edinburgh and Hull, and SIL's family. Also all of us local family. My ex added them all to a You Tube link. A good mixture of funny, emotional, and artistic offerings, everyone did well
The family also sent them a treats hamper from us all.
I think we made them happy.

Gem - what a lovely thing to do, and a lasting memory of their 'non' special day, which will become special because of the video and treats hamper..

I think it's great that so many people are finding ways to celebrate, mark a special day or just finding different things to do during lockdown.

What a lovely idea Gemini, something for the family to remember during this difficult situation.

            Thank you everyone.
I will paste here what DD put on FB (with lovely photos)

So, after 13 years together, Ian and I were supposed to have a civil partnership ceremony on Thursday and be celebrating with 70 of our friends and family with a big party today. Unfortunately due to a pesky global pandemic that couldn’t happen. Instead we had our own very unofficial ‘ceremony’ in one of our favourite woods where we exchanged rings and some very nice words that made me cry.
Over the last few days we have received so many kind and thoughtful messages, calls, videos and gifts from our loved ones. We have both been so touched and surprised and astounded by the huge amounts of love flowing our way. I’m sure the party would have been excellent fun and we wish we were with you all, kissing everyone’s faces. But it’s hard to be too sad when we have honestly had such a lovely couple of days. I feel so close to you all, even though we’re apart.
Today we went for another lovely woodland walk, have eaten lots of tasty things and are currently enjoying a beer in the evening sun. Ian has a 3 course meal prepared for tonight (naturally) and later we’ll have a little dance party to what would have been the disco playlist. If you fancy a dance, feel free to join us...

Gem - who needs an official ceremony when they've had two days of beautiful and very meaningful celebrations. I know they were disappointed their plans were put on hold, but I do think they've made the best of a difficult situation, and I join in sending very best wishes to them. xxx
