It has been a very special day today. The sun shone brilliantly throughout and the arrangements we had made went off perfectly.
It was only a small occasion as one daughter lives in Menorca, and the other 130 miles away and she and her husband both work. We thought of sharing our day with family and friends, but they would have to come from hundreds of miles around, London, Edinburgh, Bedford, Cambridge, Shropshire, Surrey, Spain, Italy, France, Australia even! It's almost too much to ask for a Service which takes half an hour. So we didn't tell very many people, until the past few days, and promised them photos and Skypes.
OH and I were unable to marry in Church and we always missed that. In fact in all my marriages (yes there have been 3 of them) I have never actually had a Church wedding. So this was very important to us both.
We work as volunteers in the Cathedral. We stand at the Information Desk, (hopefully) answering questions the public have about this glorious building and we've done this for many years now, usually on a Sunday which is a Free day to the public, so can be very busy indeed.
Gemma, (my daughter) was with us. She was the bridesmaid at our wedding 25 years ago. She read the Passage from Corinthian 13 which ends "So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love".
Through all the vagaries of life, the joys and the heartaches, the travel, the worry, the beating cancer (OH twice), the financial concerns, the gifts life has sent our way, and the uplifts and downsides, we made it this far.
Here's to the next 25 years !
