    TVs for the elderly

My mum could do with a new TV, with a bigger screen. I think with her love of snooker it would really make a difference to her, and for other programmes too of course.
As she is in her 90th year without good eyesight ,it needs to be very easy to operate and understand. We would of course set it up for her and explain, but mum needs to be able to use it herself. She manages OK with her current TV with freeview. Unless she presses the 'wrong button' on the remote control, then phones my current or ex OH to come and sort it out!!

I wondered if any members with older relatives (Oma, Nan2?) had any advice to offer?!

Gem we went with MIL for her last new TV it is a large Samsung basic model with freeview (that she hardly ever watches ) .
We went to Currys and explained to the sales assistance that it had to be a easy remote nothing fancy or complicated but bigger than the 36inch TV she had ,
Martin set it up for her and put tape over the buttons she didn't have to touch so she knows what ones are what ,
To be honest it would do for me too as I'm hopeless with Remote's , Has good colour and picture too.
Im not fat just 6ft too small

Thanks Oma. Putting tape over buttons she doesn't need is a very good idea!

        Oma - that's a really good idea.

Gem - I'm sure your mum would find a modern screen much easier to see - they really are so much clearer these days. I have never understood why you need so many buttons on the remote.

Gem, in laws have got an ordinary flat screen tv, i think it's 48" with freeview.
Dad is ok with the remote, he got used to it,because they watch a lot ot tv.
You can gaurantee mam will press a wrong button, but then she does on the phone handset.
          They always have subtitiles on.

Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Last tv we bought was from Richer Sounds the staff were very patient and knowledgeable, great for us who no nothing about what we needed/wanted, maybe a specialist company rather than an electrical giant is the way to go? They should be able to give you the advice you need.

Avo - we bought our sound bar from Richer Sounds a couple of years ago, and they were very helpful and explained the various options clearly. There was also a viewing room where we could hear 'our' make of soundbar in action.
