    Update

I have an iPad I know a lot of you have, recently I got a message to say it needed an update, I ignored it bit it’s got most persistent it happens regularly and every time it happens I can’t do a thing with it same with my phone. They change things I don’t want changing it takes me ages to get used to it, I don’t want things changing I like it the way it is, sends me over the edge. Anyone have this problem ?

How annoying, I get a message saying unable to update as device wasn't turned on, what is that about.

I ignored an update when I first had this iPad and it ended up in the iPad hospital! I was quite happy with it and didn't feel the need to change anything! How are we supposed to know what is optional and what is essential?

IPad have recently introduced a massive new update. I loaded it up (I can't remember how long it took, but it was a little while) and I have to say, I'm really pleased with it. Apart from anything else, GRU looks brilliant on it - it's much more like it looks on a desk or lap-top and all functions seem to be working fine. It took me a couple of goes to understand how to get extra characters. They are 'greyed out' over normal letters/numbers and you have to put you finger on the one you want and move your finger downwards, but it is really easy to do once you get the movement and is really quick and accurate and much better than having to switch to a different keyboard. The predictive text seems much better than I've ever seen before, so that's a bonus too. I haven't yet had chance to look at other new features, but I haven't found anything I don't like.

I also updated the operating system on my iPhone as well - I always try to load any system upgrade to help with security. You can turn off the announcements Apple send you - go to settings, Apple ID -Name/PhoneNumbers/Email and scroll down to Subscriptions/Announcements and turn the green switch off. Same with Apple Music, New Apps etc, and with Apple News Updates if you don't want them.

Now I've got a bit more time, I'll have a look at the new iPad features and try and do a bit of a summary about what looks good.

Qwerty I know some updates are annoying because they tend to slightly change things but if you ignore them you could be prone to a virus as an update in security is often among the updates.

Mine is a Samsung tablet Qwerty, so not the same. It hasn't asked me to update though!

Plant I think this is because the update takes a lot of battery power and so it needs to be plugged in.

I get get regular updates and some of the things I don’t like much, others are good. The thing about the updates is that often they include security updates so it is worth doing. I don’t have an Apple phone so don’t know the situation re them. Be aware that as your iPad and iPhone get older you will no longer qualify for automatic updates (marketing ploy methinks) so you might as well get what you can while you can

                    Well done, Plant.

I was going to have a good browse round the new iPad features this morning over my cuppa, but our connection is so slow I'd be here all day. I'll try again later!!
