    New ipad

DH persuaded to get a new iPad today, I had been thinking about it for a while and finally took the plunge. My goodness, what a difference to the old one, so much quicker and the picture is brilliant. I was a bit worried about what would happen to all my apps, this forum etc so made sure I knew all my passwords correctly, but like magic, it was all there. I'm sure there's a little man (or woman) inside frantically working to keep me connected . I always think my Mum and Dad wouldn't believe what we can do nowadays.

Well done Enfys, it seems to have gone smoothly with your new i pad

I agree the generation above us would be amazed. Most people wouldn't have even had a phone in their day, all todays technology would have been like magic.

Enfys - your new iPad sounds great! How old was your other one? I don't think I can justify a new one yet - so I need to know that a newer model would transform my digital life!!

I often wonder what earlier generations would think of our technology. We take it all for granted nowadays, but it wasn't so long ago that we lived without many of our 'gadgets'. I remember when I was doing my Cert Ed in the early 80s, looking at the development of computers, and dreamed up the idea of being able to phone a sort of warehouse where your computer would show all the products on shelves and you could place your order over the phone and it would be delivered to you. Not so different from online supermarket shopping, but I never thought the technology would make it possible. LOL

Although IPads are a lot of money once you have one you wonder how ever you managed with out one. I use mine a lot but I have also got a desk top pc ( its rather old now ) and I also have a smart phone . I hardly ever type anything into the search engine when I am using either the iPad or phone I just speak to Siri on iPad or Google voice search. The next thing on my Christmas wish list will be an Amazon Echo or similar . Well I can dream can't I ?

Daisy, my old one was a version 2, about 6 years old. It was still working but very slow and I kept getting a black screen in the middle of searching. I use it a lot so felt justified getting a new one. I also got a trade in from Currys which helped me make my decision 😊

Love my iPad bought for me last yr but I can't do animated anything Enfys so that's something new, I've tried to look for apps that work on forums but no luck, enjoy it and like people have already said my parents would be amazed at this technology and the fact that I can use it lol

Enfys well done you for getting to grips so quickly with your new iPad the one we have came as a package with my lap-top from Acer about 4 yrs ago and whilst I use my lap-top everyday the tablet thingy stays mostly unused as I find the keyboard too small and fiddley,John uses it mostly to keep track of any Bentleys he may purchase when he wins the lottery or watching lessons as to how to play his banjo its a good job we have electric in his Man Cave so I can't hear the painful renditions of his musical talents.

Mimi - I was given an Amazon Dot for my birthday. It's good fun, and eventually I'm sure I shall find more and more uses for it. Unfortunately our internet speeds are so slow we can't stream music or anything, but both DSs use them for music.

The other day Alexa (I really want to call her Dotty!) lost her connection and I haven't got round to reinstating it through the phone app yet, so every time she thinks she hears her name she goes into panic mode with flashing red lights, saying she doesn't seem able to connect to the internet. Poor soul! Also I've noticed she ignores me if I call her Siri. I think I'm developing the same sort of relationship with her as I have with the Sat Nav - talking to her like a person!!!
