Has the Internet changed your life?

Do you feel the internet has changed your life? Tell us about your experiences, especially those relating to your grandchildren...do they spend far too much time on iPads

Two questions here. Yes, it's changed my life in many ways.

I suppose the most dramatic is the way it's so easy to access information. However, without the benefit of an education and the ability to sort the nonsense from the sense that can be a mixed blessing. Even some respected sources such as Wiki contain a great deal of rubbish, bias and distortion.

Secondly, belonging to various forms of social media has enabled me to make contact with old friends and form new ones. That's been a real blessing.

And then, I rarely write letters any more, just emails, many of which are much shorter than an old fashioned letter used to be.

I play a few games with one or two friends as well and I love Twitter which gives me access to lots of articles which wouldn't otherwise know about.

As for the grandchildren, well their screen time is limited but there are some super things available on the iPad, however, I do think parents needs to set firm boundaries as it is so addictive.

Why am I sitting here typing away instead of doing the ironing?

The internet probably saved my sanity when I was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer in 2001 - a lady set up www.vaco.co.uk with a private discussion forum and it made a huge difference to a great number of women literally all around the world. Don't know where I would have been without it.

Have also met lots of really great people both online and in real life.

You do need to be cautious about some websites because they aren't all legit and sometimes way out of date on health issues. Like everything, you learn as you go along.

Would also say I've also experienced some decidedly dodgy characters who seem to find courage in the anonymity of the internet and use it for very cruel and mean spirited ends. Beyond my comprehension why people would do this - I suppose they are the modern day senders of poison pen letters.

          Absolutely, totally completely!!
Shopping, Googling, forums, friendships. These are all hugely important to me. It is an important part of my life.

How I wish we had the internet when my children were small. My husband worked evenings, I was home with the kids in bed, just telly or reading for company. The internet would have made me me happier, more occupied and less lonely.

My GC, at 5 and 2, are a bit young for the internet
