Next week I am having work done on my garage door so that it opens automatically, well with a button. I have found lifting the door up and down so difficult so I am leaving my car out but not keen to leave it out if we get some bad weather. Have any of you got experience of this automatic opening garage door?

We had one when we had our house but it was a long time ago and was quite slow. Neighbours thought we were dead posh, unfortunately the boys who were all quite young then loved it so much that, as my husband said at the time, "that bruddy door goes up and down more time than a tarts knickers!" In the end we hid the remote but they kept finding it! I am sure they are much better these days Nd I think it is a very good idea Plant. If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far go together

We have had an automatic door for four years. It has been brilliant as it is my car which goes in the garage and OH's under the car port.
We have just had a problem however, as we were finding that the door was open in the morning and the remote control was in the cupboard! The company did come out and we had to have a new control panel. A bit of a disagreement with the company as they advertise a five year guarantee but we had to pay for it after a call out fee! So we wouldn't recommend this country wide company. It is great not to have to get out of the car when you drive up in the dark and cold.

Plant - we had an automatic garage door also about 4 or 5 years ago. It is absolutely brilliant. It's a double garage and the old door was so heavy I couldn't lift it. With with this you just stand there and press a button, and hey presto! it rolls up and rolls down with no trouble at all. I think we've had it serviced once just to be on the safe side. We shopped round quite a bit and the company we eventually got it from make the doors for other suppliers.
Unfortunately, the only car that goes into the garage is a half-built kit car of OH's!! I live in hope that eventually I will be able to put mine in there, but I can't see it happening.

We never had the luxury of a automatic garage door we always had to haul it up , this house doesn't have one and I must say I do miss a garage , having said that almost everyone we know use the garage as a storage room and never put there cars in it. There are a few houses in our cul-de sac who have one and no one ever puts a car in them ,
Plant I think you would really benefit from one , the last thing you need it to be pulling garage doors up and down , anything that would help you is a bonus xxxIm not fat just 6ft too small

I think it's a great idea for you Plant.
Our garage door is ancient and has a mind of it'own. There is a knack to opening it and if you're not careful it can slip back with the potential for a whack on the head.Hence we hardly ever use it. It's only a junk-sorry "storage space" anyway which we can access via a back door.

Ours contains a trailer, kitchen units, fitted, wall and base to 2 sides, plus worktop to one side. Lots of toys, DIY and decorating stuff, recycling boxes, stepladders, garden chairs, children's tents and paddling pool, steam cleaner, tumble dryer. Bottled water and beer. But no car!!“A grandchild fills a space in your heart that you never knew was empty.” – Unknown

Our garage is now bricked up with nice big window and is a "utility room" also known as a "dumping ground" as OH reminds me....we put our old kitchen units in and bench tops so is quite practical, i call it my launderette, it has the washing machine, tumble drier and clothes airer in there, as well as my ironing pile....
never used it for car, my sister is envious of it as she has no storage space...
Sounds an excellent idea Plant and i am sure it will make life easier for you, so anything that does that is a bonus...How does a child spell Love..........T.I.M.E

Anything to make your life easier & safer is a good idea Plant.
OH can't fit his car in our garage for chest freezer, shelving units with loads of my art stuff on them, his golf stuff, Christmas decs, ladders, GC's car seats, carpet cleaner . ...on & on. There's even a little roof space in there but guess what...thats full too. I hope you enjoy your new purchase."Good friends help you to find important things when you have lost them....your smile, your hope, and your courage."
