There was something on the radio about this yesterday, that I caught part of. Lots of cross people complaining that Windows 10 had installed itself without them asking for it, and that they had lost a lot of things from their computers.“A grandchild fills a space in your heart that you never knew was empty.” – Unknown

Our work laptops are being replaced at end of lease and the IT people say that as long as you back up all your files will still be there. I did back up and I also spent hours putting everything on high power USB sticks which is just as well because when I went into my documents there was absolutely nothing there except a few useless bits. Thank goodness I put the stuff on the USBs.If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far go together

I decided to accept it and I'm glad I did after your experience Glamma of losing internet access altogether.
I suppose I'll find my way round it and as Daisy says it's probably inevitable but I would like to have been consulted. So far I have noticed that it has slowed things up considerably and when I googled this problem found I am definitely not alone.Various solutions were proposed but I am so not tech-savvy so it made no sense at all. My computer expert SIL lives over 200 miles away so I suppose I'll have to put up with it. Another frustration I could do without!

Clover - that is so annoying. Have you got apps or other software on your computer that could slow it up? The other possibility is that your anti-virus software is slowing it down. I don't know whether you need to change the anti-virus for W10, but if you do the other one could still be running as well. If you can do a virus scan try that - opt for the Quick Scan otherwise it could take a day or more to run. Malware and spyware can also slow it down - it's hard to get rid of them, so that may have to wait until you see your SIL. Sorry I'm not more help but I'll try and find out from somebody."Joy is what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognise how good things really are. "

Clover - I've done a bit of Googling and came up with this:
Your center for technology, offering a technical blog with news, tips, how-to, and other industry information. We also offer IT consulting and can provide computer support, smartphone support, web design, web hosting, and server management.
I hope it helps.

Clover - you're very welcome. I know how frustrating it is. I'm seeing my DS1 this week-end and he may be able to give us some advice. I was talking to a friend yesterday who says his computer takes up to half an hour to boot up since they started to install W10 (accidentally) and stopped it half way through. It's such a pain!

Well, I put off installing Windows 10 as I really didn't want it!
I did intend to do so however, as we will have to eventually. However, the date took me by surprise by being when I was on holiday!
So, no Windows 10 for me.
Today our computer man came as we were having problems, mainly lack of space. He cleared some stuff off and move things a little and now we have space. I asked if I had made the problem worse by not installing W10. He said in fact the opposite was true! If I had installed it Windows 7 would still be stored somewhere on the laptop so there would be even less space. He assured me I will be fine chugging along with 7 and that it is only in 2020 we have to be changed over. Phew! We will invest in a new laptop before too long and then will have 10, of course but until then, we are fine!“A grandchild fills a space in your heart that you never knew was empty.” – Unknown

We decided to upgrade on the desktop and luckily all has been fine. Apparently my on laptop, which was in the possession of my SiL, W10 installed itself uninvited. All ok there too. It is! Taking over the world!!! It announced when we returned from holiday new updates were due and they took nearly a day! Still trying to find my way around the old W10 now got all this extra stuff to learn. My OH, who hates computers, is happier with W10 than anything else he's used. He doesn't moan half as much as he used to. He's got my old laptop and a separate screen and keyboard and it seems to suit him very well.
Elisi - I'm so glad I switched to a Mac a few years ago. It took about a week to get used to things being easier and logical and I wouldn't swap back to Windows.
