    Phones!

What sort of phone do you have? A top of the range i phone, or a basic Nokia, which doesn't even take photos - or something in between?

My OH has a very old basic Nokia which she loves. It has no camera, and you can't send or receive emoticons on it. It is tough and the battery lasts a very long time, and she is happy with that. I looks more like a house phone than a mobile however!!

I like Nokias too, but have also had LG in the past.
I am clumsy so drop my phone, frequently. With mine if I drop it the back flies off (it didn't with my previous better made model, which I couldn't get any more) the battery flies out, I collect all bits together, switch it on and off it goes again, no problem. I don't want or need an expensive one that I can't drop for fear of breaking it!

I have had mine for years, and I really need to get another. It is what I call 'semi smart'. It has a keyboard but also a touch/swipe screen. As there is a keyboard the screen is small.

I could get another like that, and am tempted. However I think something without a built in keyboard and therefore a bigger screen would be better
I really only need a phone to text, call and take photos. If I had a phone which did other things I'm sure I would use it, but it's not vital to me. OH thinks I should move with the times and get a better, more up to date phone, like a Nokia Lumia. All my family and most of our friends have i phone or similar. She isn't willing to move with the times, but thinks I should LOL.

So, what sort of phone do you own?

I have a Smart phone Gem, Galaxy and it's super duper. A bit Star Trek really It's a business phone so I do get a tax allowance for it. Basically I can do just about everything on there that I can do on my laptop, iPad or desktop. Highly recommended.

My daughter has an iPhone which she loves and adores and would not change for anything!

Best idea is to shop around for the best deals.

I'm doing a bit of shopping around and research Elisi. which I always do, I'm far from an impulse buyer on anything! Interesting to hear what other memebers here have though.

Both my DDs who have i phones have broken screens atm. I think the screens cost more than I am willing/able to pay for a phone let alone a screen, so that is out of the question for me

I have an iPhone and I also love it! I can 'facetime' the grandchildren that is where you can see them as you talk, great for when you are away from home. It's not the lastest model and so not too expensive but does the job well. Would not go back to an android.

I have an HTC which is a smart phone and my personal phone . I rarely use it except for Internet when I am on the train if I haven't got my iPad with me. Husband has the same, we have 200 texts, unlimited internet, free calls to each other and free to other Three phones, 300 free minutes and pay £18 a month. I also have a work phone which is a Samsung Galaxy smartphone. I can do almost anything on there, pick up work and personal emails, Internet, word, excel etc. It is the one I use most. Our personal contract ends mid May and I have looked at iPhones but there is an upfront cost attached and I am not prepared to pay that and anyway I think it would be a waste having already got an iPad. So we will go into the Three shop and see what is on offer, I think I will reduce my monthly amount as well as I have never even got anywhere near the allowed minutes as I use my work phone during the day and hardly ever make calls apart from work.

We have been with Three for our mobiles for some years now and have found them to be very good.

We had mobile phones from the beginning when they were like bricks and only held a charge for half a day. This was because it was offered through our shop BT account and husband felt that when I was out delivering or on the road he wanted me to be able to contact him/others if I was in trouble. When we closed the shop we were going to take the numbers with us but BT wouldn't let us so we ought personal phones and both have the same numbers as almost 17 years ago. Three gave us "compensation" to buy us out of our original packages which were really quite wonderful but they couldn't afford for us to keep them.

Some people I know have packages where they spend £70 a month which I think is silly (my son for instance) we do not use our land line ever so £36 is the most we pay which is reasonable.

OH and DS has a Nokia Lumia and they both agree it's not a very good phone. The camera on there isn't very good. On the other hand I have a Sony Xperia Z3
it's sort of mid price range so not the cheapest out there but it's battery life is so much longer than the Nokia and it has a huge 20.7 mp camera . You don't need to adjust the settings from day to night/ party or beach it does it automatically itself!
Its simple to use but best of all my 14 year old GS thinks it's really 'cool' . Can't get better recommendation than that !

Some people pay a small fortune for contract phones, don't they Zizi l got my phone on a £7 a month contract. Now it is 10, which is about as cheap you can get these days.
I am of course entitled to a free phone upgrade by now. However, the cheapest deal they could offer me with a new phone is almost double what I am now paying each month. Reluctantly they eventually agreed with me that there was nothing they could offer at anywhere near what I am paying.
Hence me buying a new phone. A far cheaper option!

Ours are contract but that is because we get all you eat data (as they call it) and it is worth it for us. Our previous contracts were £13 a month. I did think about going pay as you go but then decided that in five years time (if I am not still working) the contract prices will be much higher to start so happy to continue as we are for now. I am horrified when I hear and see some of the contracts. I was talking to husband about this thread a little while ago and he said one of the students on his current training course is paying £150 a month for his phone, I said maybe it was his only source of connection for social networking etc. but he has his work iPad and a personal one as well which is also on contract. I know the salaries of these new entrants and he is going to bankrupt himself,

Years ago when eldest son started his own business (for a while) I did his books. One day he spent a total of 12 hours and some minutes on his phone to his girlfriend! How did he ever get any work done?

I had a basic Nokia for years and I loved it.Only thing that let it down was the camera, pictures weren't very clear.
Hubby bought me a new phone for Christmas, not an iphone and I didn't think I would like it, but I love it now.
                  This is mine.

I have a contract with virgin and phone from them it's a Samsung Galaxy mini android its been ok but the camera is not the best, I too am due an upgrade on 30th of April, looking at iphones DS and Dil bought us n iPad for Xmas last yr and I understand it is very compatible with the iphone as in photos are on both devices e mails on both plus FaceTime and just feels right for me. I too only pay £7 and have been with virgin since mobiles came out after enquiring it will go up to £16 I think for what I will gain from it it's worth it we shall see

I have an iphone 4s. It was my daughters but when she upgraded and renewed her contract she gave it to me. I had to get it unlocked but that was easy enough. I use giff gaff which costs me just £5 a month. I get 100 minutes call time,250 texts and some internet. And for every minute that someone calls me I get that minute added on to my call time. I always end up at the end of the month with more minutes than I started with. I get all I want and need on this iphone: emails, texts etc and any of the apps that you want.. I must say though that if I didn't have my daughters phone when she upgrades I wouldn't and couldn't afford to pay for an iphone on contract. I am quite happy with our arrangement and would recommend giff gaff to anyone. There are other tariffs you can pay but £5 a month suits me fine. Oh and the camera is very good too. I did break the back of the iphone and it cost just £15 to replace it. Bargain all round....

I have a hand me down IPhone which I find easy to use as I am used to using an IPad. I think I pay £12 a month but never get anywhere near using my call time and I never text unless forced to.

Plant I only text husband because he cannot answer his phone at work but I don't like texting at all, quite often I will send him a text and will get a question mark back from him and when I read the message back the autocorrect has changed it into something completely different!
