    Ordered a new Kindle

I love my Kindle. It is a basic one, a few years old. Its just an e reader, not a mini tablet. It does what I want it to, and is brilliant for reading in the sunshine on holiday and so light to carry around.
Some time ago I must have got it wet (I blame the proximity of cat, glass of water and Kindle on bedside table! ) Since then I could only go back on the right hand side, the left back button doesn't work. Not the end of the world, but a tad annoying.
This morning, browsing Amazon I noticed that basic Kindles now all have touch screen, and are £59 - less than OH paid for mine. I thought and thought, and then I bought!!
OH can have my old one, and from what I have read it seems I will be able to transfer all the books I want from the original device to the new one.
    Has anyone else done this?

Gemini, no I haven't done the transfer, but my Kindle is also a few years old and has developed a few bad habits. Sometimes it won't close down, sometimes it returns me to page 1, which is very frustrating if I just want o read got a few minutes. I used to store books in chronological order because I forget what I've downloaded, but it high handedly reorganised them into alphabetical order, so I can't find what I want. I think I might be getting a new one at that bargain price. 😀

mine is a basic one and I have had it for years. I also haven't on my phone and my iPad. I think husband will appreciate an all singing and dancing one. After I have explained it all........

Mine has a keyboard on the bottom and, I'm told, no longer produced. Don't really use the keyboard as I tend to use my laptop to get new books. I have a light in the cover which has proved useful on holidays. Did wonder about using my iPad instead but might be a bit risky to leave it if you are on the beach or at the pool. My kindle started playing up on our last holiday - nothing major but irritating when you loose your page on a kindle.

Shem - my OH's Kindle has a keyboard on the bottom and is much larger and heavier than mine. But I think it's more reliable.

Regarding reading lights for Kindles, I buy mine from Poundland! They cost a pound ( of course ) They clip on and have a bendy bit. They last some time, and as they are so cheap I used to throw them away once they dimmed. However OH now changes the battery - several for a pound at the pound shop - they last me a long time

My lovely new Kindle is here!
Easy to use, so nice to just tap or swipe to turn pages, and all my books are stored on a cloud and quickly downloaded on the new device. So the book I am reading at present is now there for me to continue.
I won't move all my books to the new device, only those I haven't read and those I may want to reread.
                    I'm happy

Enjoy, Gemini. I too have the older version with keyboard and now the battery seems to want charging more often!
