    New iPad

First to say sorry for not being around much for the last week. It has been hectic and I have been checking in quickly but not posting.
Well one thing that took a lot of time was setting up a new iPad. I bought an iPad Air2 to replace my old and out of date iPad. Transferring contents from one to the other was easy it said. Simply backup iPad on iTune and then download to new one. Right! Well the first thing was an error message saying it was not possible due to software being too old! So, it said, set up new iPad as "new iPad". Okay started that and entered my username and password, pressed okay "cannot connect to the server" it said. Waited for server to come back up but nothing! Finally found a way to bypass username and password and - hey presto - downloaded content from iTunes. That should be it right? No! No email. So checked out Google mail which didn't like me any more on my new devise. So deleted account and entered details again with new password. Okay that worked but every other app needed my username and password. Okay these might be in Evernote where I USUALLY save things. Ah but Evernote had gone missing! Found it! Set it up again. Found old notes. Finally got everything tickety-boo great. Then my smartphone would not receive emails - why? 'Cos I had changed the password on the new iPad. Set up email on the smartphone! Should I take a paracetamol at this point I wondered. Passed old iPad to DH so still had to delete everything - being careful not to remove stuff from iCloud which is then be lost on all devises FOREVER! - and then set it all up for him with his email etc. etc. This morning I worked out how to share my Kindle library with DH which is great as we now can read the same books when I buy them on Kindle. Feeling please now although still surprised I didn't throw the new iPad out of the window at more than one point.

BL - well done you tecchie lady! I think I would have needed a strong drink as well as Paracetamol.

It's often the little things that trip you up. I temporarily changed my Apple password a while ago and it wouldn't let me go back to the old one for 12 months! I didn't know it did that!

I hope DH is happy with your old iPad.

I still have the job of clearing his old Nexus 7 tablet and loading it with games for the grandchildren to use when they are here. Getting there - I think :-) Mr Google-Search has been my best friend lately.

Just changed our Broadband supplier and had the job of making sure all the electronics in the house had the new password! Anyone who has attempted SKY change of password, well, it ain't easy! Confusing!!! YES.

Just bought home to us how dependant we have all become on our various electronic items and WIFI, how many times a day we have to keep charging them etc.

Well done BL for getting there!

Well done! My iPad packed up so I took it along to one of the tech teach groups. Very embarrassing as the two tutors spent hours puzzling over it and it took up all the power so all the other people had to just sit and wait. Turned out I should have run a important update (my if in doubt do nowt philosophy let me down badly) and that's what caused the problem!

I need a new iPad as mine is now four years old and it keeps blacking out. Also the Google page comes up properly at first and then it turns itself around and is only half the screen so when I turn it around to where it is it pops itself the other way around if you see what I mean??

Husband has an iPad mini which all BA staff are issued with and I find that too small so when ŵe get a new one it will just be an update of the one I have. Given BLs experience I might take mine to the shop and tell them if they want my hundreds ofpounds they need to transfer all the stuff for me!
I will keep this one for the children to play on.

Zizi the Apple shop will do that for you I gather. They back up your existing iPad to iCloud and then transfer your stuff to the new iPad. It takes about 20 minutes apparently. I must say that my old one was doing the things that yours is now and kept crashing. The mail took about ten minutes to come in and just went round and round without appearing for ages. I needed a new one for sure. The iPad Air 2 is much the same size as the iPad2 and much thinner and the speed and performance is fantastic. Glad I made the effort now.

Thanks for all the kind compliments. Had you heard some of the language here you might well have been a bit shocked though. It was enough to make a navvy blush!

BL I use mine for work rather than dragging my work laptop everywhere so it has given good service particularly in the last 18 months. I have a chip in mine so I can use it wherever I am (except abroad of course). It only costs £9 a month and it is excellent value. I swap from chip to wifi whenever I can.

My work laptop has only today been replaced and everything put on a new server only not everything has been put on the server. I spent hours transferring my files to a large flash drive, well two, and thought I was very clever however the damned computer says that there are many files that it doesn't recognise! GRRRRRR .........

Oh that sounds familiar Zizi - a computer that doesn't want to cooperate in spite of you doing everything according to the instructions. I DO know that they don't really have a personality and mind of their own but sometimes it seems like that way. Perhaps one day we will find out that they actually do!!

There is no way to print direct now as the computer does not recognise my printers so I have to copy everything onto a stick BUT I have to encrypt it first (no I don't know what that means either). Then I have to put the stick into my personal laptop and then put a code in and save it to the laptop and then print it. BUT,if you make amendments you cannot save it back to the encrypted stick. Also I have followed all the instructions to update my email access on my work phone but that doesn't work either and all it is doing is lightly tinging constantly, so annoying.......
