Smart Meters.

    Smart Meters.

I have agreed to have a smart meter fitted. All was well in my world until a friend told me a gas fitter said to her he would never have one in his house because it would give access to all sorts of private info.Having had a quick flick on line the main gripe seems to be the radiation they emit. I will telephone the smart meter people tomorrow to cancel until I am sure it's ok. Has anyone got a smart meter?

No GM, they are on the TV now and everywhere and I think enough is enough. They can already tell which TV progs you watch and when, without this, as my latest letter from SKY tells me

I object strongly to my privacy being invaded, so I will try to avoid these Smart gadgets! We are supposedly a Democratic State in which freedom of thought and speech is paramount. Ha ***** Ha.

I suppose all my emails are read. I don't care as I write nothing contentious anyway. I think perhaps even my phone calls are monitored. Again let them come!

But I draw the line as to how they invade my home space.

I'm not sure of what benefit they are for the customer?
I understand that they give more accurate up to date meter readings to gas /electricity suppliers and they (supposedly) show what devices / appliances are connected and switched on giving you the option to turn them off to save money.
I am a grown up and I find that I can manage to read my own gas and electricity meters once a month and enter the correct readings to my online Eon account. Plus I don't need a smart meter to tell me to turn off devices / appliances. If I don't need them on I turn them off !
Isn't a smart meter another device using electricity??

I thought these were only to help you control how much electricity you used.Anyway, we won't be having one.

I admit I know nothing about smart meters. From reading this thread I don't want one!

Dd2 had a smart meter and to begin with they were racing round the house switching things off to make the meter slow down but she doesn't mention it now so the novelty must have worn off.

I had heard that the TV manufacturers can spy on your viewing with the newer TVs and I think they said in certain circumstances they could spy on your living room! Think they would get very bored spying on us. Oh is often out working and I half watch TV whilst reading or using my iPad or laptop.

I was a bit surprised when all the things I had been googling on my iPad came up on OHs new iPhone yesterday. Good job I haven't signed up to Ashley Madison- I would be in trouble!
