Marmar* - This is just guesswork from other versions of Windows, but to change the font size, try looking under Settings/Display. If there is an option to change, you may have to click something like 'Apply' to make it work. I must admit I didn't use my laptop much (Windows 7) and when OH's desktop went to the great search engine in the sky I happily gave him my lappy. But of course, I now have to maintain it, but I've forgotten what little I knew about Windows 7. I find my Mac is so much easier!!

Last week we got fast broadband by changing to a 'wirless' ISP they use microwaves rather than phone lines. It is wonderful! So, I upgraded to Windows 10 now the computer is slowing... the keyboard won't keep up with my fingers.... can't print emails ..... will have to wait till DS comes on Saturday to have a look at it. However I can google at great speed!Grandmothers are just antique little girls - author unknown

My work computer is 10 and it is fine. My personal computer was 8 and work computer about 1822 but since they have upgraded it, apart from a few hassles, it is working well. I use PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Publisher and something called Share point which I have not quite got the hang of but I am getting there. I have always loved Publisher. It is excellent for certificates and posters. The ribbon at the top is different and that takes a bit of getting used to but a bit of experimenting and everything is fine, it is actually better than before. If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far go together

Plant - I don't think any of us really like having to change software etc. I know I used up loads of college holidays writing instructions manuals for students and if I never have to master another program I'll be a happy bunny.
Unfortunately, everything keeps changing and then the software houses stop supporting their old programs so you find they don't work properly or get hacked, so you reluctantly try and get to grips with the new stuff. I do find life a lot simpler since I switched to a Mac!!

Well, I am currently without a desktop as, according to my lovely chaps in PC World where I have a business account and know them all pretty well, what caused the recent complete horrible mess up of my old Windows 7 desktop was when I said, HEY, OK, STOP NAGGING ME, I WILL DOWNLOAD WINDOWS10 NOW.
Since then I lost my AOL software, and could not reload it, my saved stuff was gone, it ran very slowly, Firefox played up, endless things that made me tear out my hair!
So off I went this week to chat to the TechGuys and they told me that WINDOWS 7 AND WINDOWS 10 are incompatible and they have spent hours every day trying to help people through the problems downloading W10 onto a W7 desktop has caused! That and the fact my desktop was already 6 years old and showing signs of age.
So, I had to give in and choose a new, towerless desktop from HP and put it on a SmartPlan which they do so I pay monthly and is recognised by Inland Revenue. It will be W10 but it will not be conflicting with anything else so I took my old Tower in and they are currently transferring everything on there onto the new desktop.
I'm sure some people have had success with W10, but I have not and my guys tell me never ever to download anything else again such as this onto my new DT and I will listen to them!Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go. T.S Eliot

Touch Wood my laptop is now running Windows 10 (thanks to DS) and all seems ok, got to personalise it but will do that as and when I think. Now been trying to connect our TV and Freesat box to our new ISP! Trouble with technology is it never stands still.......Last edited by Avo; 11-10-2015, 10:10 AM.Grandmothers are just antique little girls - author unknown

Elisi - how odd, because OH was on Windows 7 Ultimate on my old laptop and W10 installed perfectly ok. It took a little while, but we expected that. I can't remember how old the laptop is - about 5 years, I think. Perhaps[s I should touch wood, keep my fingers crossed and not tempt fate!
I hope you soon get your data transferred to your new desktop. How nice to have a towerless one - it's one of the (many) things I love about my Mac!

It is odd! But I assure you that is what the PC World chappies said! I think it was also very much to do with my system being 6 years old? Anyway I am now struggling with Windows 10 on my new desktop, but, they did not (and I asked them speicifically to) put on my documents and my photos, so I now have to troll back with my old tower and the new desktop and get them to do the job properly! All my business stuff was on there and my backup CD will NOT load them onto here!Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go. T.S Eliot

Elisi - Oh what a nightmare - I hope you get everything transferred safely. When I had to do that for OH I put everything on to an external drive and then reloaded it onto the new computer from the external drive. He then had a back up in case anything goes wrong.
I don't know why your new desktop won't access your back up CD. If your laptop has a DVD drive, I can only suggest loading it onto your laptop and then perhaps using a flash drive to copy from the laptop to the desktop."Joy is what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognise how good things really are. Thanks Daisy! Took the tower into town today, locally, and had the contents transferred onto an external hard drive and hopefully that will work nicely, but too tired to sort it tonight. Working on it tomorrow. I didn't think of that at first, so really a big THANKS from me!Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go. T.S Eliot
