    Windows 10

I have been offered a free download of windows 10. My net knowledge is abysmal. Had months of trouble because I didn't download something essential on my i-pad - in my ignorance I thought of the phrase "if in doubt, do nowt". My one wish is that they would just leave everything alone and stop tinkering.

I was going to ask if anyone had changed to Windows10.I am undecided, but hubby doesn't take kindly to change on the computer.if I change, I will burn Windows7 to a disk first,so I can reinstall it if I don't like Windows10. I could upgrage on the laptop, but leave the desktop as it is.

We're going to wait to see what people think of it. In case there are any teething troubles that need to be sorted out. We never change straight away.

I don't use Windows, but have started to look at it for OH's laptop. When we were in Redmond (where Microsoft lives) recently, I was talking to my nephew's wife who works for MS, and it sounds as though Windows 10 is designed to be compatible across 'all platforms' to compete with the compatibility of Apple products. She works on the help desk which they've set up for the Stores - rather like Apple Stores. I didn't get round to asking if they're planning similar Stores over here. However, reading some of the review stuff, it also sounds as though the 'professional' versions at least might become subscription. If you're feeling brave - here are some links which might be helpful. The bottom line seems to be that you have until June/July next year to get a free upgrade from Windows 7 or 8.1. If you're currently using any other version, I think the upgrade is about £95.

Microsoft has succeeded in building an operating system that's at home on PCs and mobile devices.

The reviews seem to be quite positive even if I don't have a clue what it is all about. Think I might follow nan2's idea which makes sense.

My GS told me about upgrading to Windows 10 when they offer it to me but said the layout will be different, not sure I want it in that case, I have enough finding my way around now.

Plant - it might depend on what you're using at the moment. My OH has Windows 7, which isn't too bad, but everyone I've talked to about Windows 8 has been negative about it. I think it fell between two stools in terms of using a keyboard and mouse or a touch screen. From what I can understand (which, to be honest isn't much!) Windows 10 has sorted those problems out. But I haven't tried it, so don't want to pass judgment one way or the other.

My OH's laptop which I have switched to is Windows 7 but my own laptop is Windows Vista. Will take advice from GS's when the time comes.

Oh I hate change, and OH knows less about computers etc than I do. I will do nothing for now!

Honestly, the little scamp was trying to stop me from writing a post

I hate change too, and I am still waiting for the new broadband provider to cut me off from the old one --- give me downtime then re-connect me and I am not sure when exactly to put in the new router
