    From BT to EE

For the last 2 years all our internet, tv, landline etc have been supplied by BT. Now they are transferring it all to EE so we recently got a new hub and goodness knows what else to do the transfer. OH was assured it was just plug and play. Yeah!!! Right!!!

We looked at all the gubbins and decided it was a job for DS2 and DIL2, who are much more up to date than us. So this morning the whole family, including Cooper turned up to do the (easy) transfer. To be fair they did it sensibly and systematically (except Cooper who had his own agenda).

So the hub was set up, and our mobiles, computers, tv, door bell, printer, scanner and Alexa were all transferred ok.

Just the landlines, then. Nowhere in the instructions did it say that the BT handsets would lose all the stored numbers. DS2 eventually found, via AI, the comment that it *might* happen. AI was nearly right - it DID happen! The landline phones supplied by BT are pretty awful anyway and don't get a good signal if you move away from the base, so we're going to get new ones. You can guess who is going to get the delightful job of inputting all the numbers we store on the landline.

    Isn't technology great.

And OH has since realised that although the package included Sky Sports, he can't find it on the tv. Luckily DIL1 and both GSs are coming down tomorrow, so I'm sure GS1 will be able to sort it out.

Daisy these things are so complicated aren't they? It sounds as as though the family did a good job.

My OH would be so envious of the Sky Sports!

Perhaps don't tell, S this! We would have just renewed our existing package, but they don't do it any more, so the best deal was one which included Sky Sports and Sky movies. Neither of which we particularly wanted, but they are free for 3 months and then can be cancelled without charge. So OH chose that. My heart sank, because I think there is quite a lot of sports coverage already. But the deal was done, and OH is miffed he can't find Sky Sports!

I would gladly give our free 3 months to S if that were possible. xx

To be honest she watches quite enough sport on TV already (snooker as we speak) Heaven help us if we had Sky Sports too

Gem, I wondered if that was you secretly thought! In that case, it's a good job I can't give her our Sky Sports, isn't it.

Glad you got it almost sorted Daisy. I'm glad hubby isn't one for sports channels.

Last year,Virgin Media decided we were due for a new router.
Everything went smoothly, tv,doorbell, computer, we don't have landlines anymore.
But Alexa was a headache. I'm not bothered about Alexa,i never wanted it.
We had her in the house, but i never used it. She lives in hubby's shed now.
He listens to a certain radio station on her everyday.
Eventually got her sorted, but it was a pain.

Nanto, there always seems to be something that's a pain. Alexa transferred easily. I thought the doorbell might be a problem, but it wasn't, thank goodness.

Lizzie, it've very hard to keep up with it all, and sometimes instructions aren't clear, not to me anyway. And sometimes I think the technology isn't actually very user friendly - like transferring phone numbers to the new equipment. We knew they were stored in the phone, but there was no warning that pointing the phones at the new router would in effect act like a factory reset!

I’ve just gone over from BT to EE and apart from BT telling me I’d get a new router which never arrived it was all quite trouble free. I only had my landline and broadband with BT and I’ve now cancelled the landline.
I rang EE about the missing router only to be told my present router was a modern one and didn’t need replacing and I only had to send my second hub back. Asked if I could send my phones back as well and he said yes! So it was all put in the return bag and sent off yesterday.
i’ve noticed that my broadband reception upstairs is now better than it was before!
Cheaper broadband too! Sorry you didn’t have a good experience Daisy. Hope you get it all up and running soon.
Believe you can and you're halfway there.

B does ours thank goodness he's tech savvy,
We changed to Virgin last year and our landline plugs into the modem ,
I wouldn't have a clue where to start.
If I was on my own DD would do it she's a whizz at stuff like that.

B isn't a sports fan either , he will watch the odd football match but that's his limit.

WeeGranny, thank goodness your switch over went so smoothly. I think our 'landline' handsets (they're actually VOIP) are rubbish. If you move more than a short distance from the base the reception is poor. But we kept them because we don't always get a good mobile signal - two bars is a cause for celebration! We've ordered some higher spec handsets/bases which should work better, and will work through hearing aids if you wear them. This will make a big difference to OH who struggles to hear on the phone anyway.

Oma, our new landline will plug directly into the modem as well. The television is the thing that really defeats me. I hardly watch it so can never find things, and haven't got the patience to search.
