Saving the Planet - Gas Boilers

We are being told that there will be a ban on new gas boilers from 2025 as a step towards reducing the use of fossil fuels.

I expect most, if not all of us have gas boilers so how do you feel about that? I wonder what the alternatives are going to be.

A ban on new gas boilers from 2025 is one step to reach net-zero emissions by 2050, say energy experts.

Daisy, we have to be off the gas by 2040. At the moment these apartments have heating from geothermal energy. This is the website, it is in dutch but can be translated. https://www.ammerlaan-tgi.nl/nl/aardwarmte
At the moment the apartments are being made gas free and we are going from D to A so everything will be more energy efficient.

We now have an electric boiler, that is being removed and we will get our hot water from the geothermal energy, it isn't far from here, it is a grower that bought ground and drilled for the heat. That sounds simple, but it wasn't.

We now cook with gas but that is going to go as well so we will be using induction. Because we only have the gas to cook with we are the first in the village to be able to remove all the gas.

There is one block that they are using as a trial, new double glass, new doors, new ventilation etc etc.

Then, I read that Germany is promoting gas!!

We have a gas boiler. So does mum, but thankfully that won't be our concern by then.

I can remember reading about this some time ago.
The article i read, said air source heat pumps will be used for heating.
Like the majority of households (i suspect) we have a gas boiler.

Lizzie, sounds as if Holland is way ahead of us.

Lizzie - I agree with the others - you are streets ahead of us.

Geothermal energy isn't something we hear a lot about in the UK, but I'm sure there must be cost and energy efficient ways of generating the power we need.

Daisy, it is used quite a lot here for growers, swimming pools etc.

Lizzie - that makes sense - the sort of use where there are predictable and regular demands on the energy.
