It's annoying when technology helps ...

... to make things more complicated!

This afternoon OH wanted to scan a document and email it to someone. This was just as I was about to print an Amazon voucher for DIL2's birthday later this week. So I said I'd wait and he could do his job first. We've got a new printer and OH got very frustrated that it doesn't scan in the same way as the old one - despite being the same make.

About an hour later, I was regretting letting him go first, as there was a steady stream of disgruntled mumbles coming from his study. Eventually, he got it done, but by then I was cooking dinner.

I've never printed out an Amazon gift voucher before. It's perfectly straightforward, provided you've got the right software. I hadn't. It demanded Acrobat Reader. So I downloaded it, installed it, and then previewed the gift voucher. I didn't know if you only have one chance to print it out, but assume you can print out as many copies as necessary because it can still only be redeemed once! I didn't want to take that chance though. So I spent a while making sure it would print out in a way that would fold up properly.

So from about 4 o'clock until about half an hour ago, "helpful" technology has had its wicked way with us!

Phew, what an exhausting helped by technology time you had Daisy!
I think printers and copiers really do have a mind of their own though. Ours works fine, but you have to press the On button any number of times between 2 and 20 to get it to spring into action. It never works first time. We swear at it a lot!

By the way you were right, you can print off an Amazon voucher any number of times, as due to the code number it can only be redeemed once.
I have given up even printing them off now for the SILs, I just send the email version

I was reading only the other day that most people don't have printers nowadays, I must be old fashioned as I thought everyone had one. Now it is all codes used on the phones, I know when I went for my first vaccination I tried to print the letter out then asked a neighbour and he told me just to use my phone, what to do when we haven't a phone I do not know.

You're probably right Lizzie. Lots of people ask to use our printer. ( Including twice last summer by friends who otherwise never bother with us. I wanted to say Sorry it's broken but OH wouldn't!)

That is not right Gem, I would have said it isn't working! \We do have a shop in the village and I have read we can go there to get things printed out.

Lizzie - I'm sure you're right. I probably wouldn't have a printer but OH likes to have hard copies of everything - invoices, bank statements etc. He doesn't trust the technology, and gets very annoyed when it doesn't work in the way he expects.

When I was teaching I really hated printers. In a class of 20 computers being used by students the one thing that would regularly cause disruption was the printer! Sometimes you'd feel you'd spent more time "helping" the printer than helping the students!

I don't know if my OH will ever be comfortable with a smartphone. He always gives people my number and tries to avoid using his phone whenever he can.

Gem - I thought about emailing DIL2's Amazon voucher, but I thought she would like something to open on her birthday. I had thought of something she would love for her birthday, she really needs to make the final choice so this seemed the best option. It actually works very well, although I would have displayed the message better if I'd realised how the spacing of text works! And got better paper for the printer!

                We have a Cannon 3 in 1, printer,scanner, copier.
Its years since we bought it. Paid £60 at Argos for it.
A few months ago, hubby suggested we could do with a new one.
I said no way, while we can still get inks for it, we will keep it.
I love ours, never had a problem with it. Perhaps i shouldn't have said that.

I am convinced that printers are the work of the devil.
I have had several and they have all driven me to dispare/ anger/ frustration. In fact I now no longer have one. I sold my last one before we moved and I haven't missed it at all
I no longer print out documents. If I have to send anything official to any business I take of photo of it and email it to the appropriate department.

Mimi - my sentiments entirely! OH uses the printer a lot but still gets very frustrated with its quirks and downright cussedness!

I have a printer, copier etc. Don’t use it much, the inks dry up and threw are so expensive. I use it to print knitting patterns and recipes mostly.
