      Yes Oma. OH said he'd very kindly call it an extra Christmas present. He's also bought a new external drive, hopefully for the repair people to put the lost data on. I'm hoping against hope that it works.x

        I've just had an idea. Ask the people who do your data retrieval for you how to put your photos on one of the cloud storage systems. There are disadvantages such as cost (which may not be high), requiring access to the internet to see your photos (unless you've also got them on an external drive at home). Some people worry about privacy, and you need to be aware of what policy your cloud company has in terms of deleting files. I don't know enough about it to give you any advice, but there are lots of people who can.
