Seems to have worked ok for now,does a laptop save pics when the memory card has been taken out and a new one inserted as this is an old pic ?

The photos on your memory card can be copied to your laptop’s memory (the hard drive, usually called C: on your screen). You can give the set of photos a name (file name) and I usually include the date in that name, eg GS birthday Aug20.

The photos also stay stay on the memory card until you wipe/format the card, then your memory card is empty, ready to be used again. If you don’t format the card the old photos stay on there, taking up space.
