    Considering replacing HiPad and/or laptop

I have two phones both capable of connecting to the Internet (one work and one personal), a work laptop which to be honest needs to be slung out of the window but the company is slowly upgrading them - very slowly, a home laptop which is quite old now - probably about eight years old but top of the range when it was bought and still functioning well, and my HiPad which is now almost two and a half years old but plays up from time to time but that may be the constant updates they send. Currently, after the last one, the screen freezes which is frustrating.

We have been discussing getting one of those two in one laptop come tablets. The ones I have seen on the TV which are called Pro3 are very, very expensive, over a thousand quid, but I have found an Acer one on the Currys web site for about six hundred quid. Now the thing is, at the moment I have all of these devices and I obviously cannot get rid of the work ones but I am wondering if anyone has any experience of the new tablet/laptops. I currently take my personal HiPad out with me as I can pick up my three work email sites on it so it is easier than my heavy work IBM laptop but it would be much more convenient to be able to work on documents when I am out which I cannot do on the HiPad.

Any advice or experiences welcomed. We are going for lunch tomorrow in Staines which has a big shopping centre (was going to be somewhere else but they have a private party so we cannot go there) so thought we could go and have a nosy, just would like to be armed with information if there is any out there.

Oh and I would not get rid of my personal phone and only depend on my work phone because I have had the same number for 20 years so everyone I know knows it and also my work phone will not work abroad. I am with Three so there are a lot of countries I can use the phone in (including Australia and NZ) with no extra charges and using my usual allowance.

Zizi - I've no experience of the dual-purpoe lappys/tablets, but if you Google the models you're interested in you will find links to computer forums where there will be lots of unbiased reviews etc.

      Good shopping.

I don't have a laptop.tablet combination.Got a laptop which I use now and again, hubby doesn't use it all. He uses ipad for photos when we are away, I never use it.Desktop computer is our favourite.Must say, when youngest granddaughter is here, the ipad is glued to her hands.

Hubby bought me a laptop for my birthday as a surprise gift. I had an Acer laptop but it ran on Windows XP. My hotmail account had already changed to Microsoft, although the hotmail address stays the same. No-one had a say in that.
The company just did it. Windows XP is no longer supported. Hence OH getting me a new piece of kit.
Well..... I've tried so hard with the new layout of Windows 8+, but failing miserably. It takes practice I know, but I wish these companies would just leave things alone if they're working ok. I loved my Acer laptop & Windows XP. Apparently they do it so you'll buy another, once they move onto a newer software. Technology eh?

My OH has got Windows 7 on what was my old laptop. I persuaded him not to get W8 because I'd read such awful reports about it, but like Mamar* I much prefer XP - if I have to use Windows as at all. I'm sure you're right, they 'update' to encourage you to buy new, but the new versions aren't necessarily better!
