If it's true, it's so incredibly stupid that they've done that work and it still won't give us more that about 4 MB (as opposed to 2Mb previously!). Grrrr ...

It's all very confusing. It seems some people can get packages giving them higher speeds and some can't. I think some providers don't yet know that the fibre cable is now working. What a muddle."Joy is what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognise how good things really are. "

UPDATE
Time for cautious optimism - I hope!
We should be getting our new FIBRE OPTIC broadband switched on tomorrow. There's a shiny new router waiting to be installed (the second we will have had in 6 months) and at some point tomorrow we'll be connected to the 21st Century.
But - I'm not holding my breath! What we will get is a connection to fibre at the cabinet, but it's still creaking aluminium cabling from the cabinet to the house. It might take sometimes to get started as well, so we may be off line tomorrow.

Gem, thank you. We'll have to share it when your cold's better.
Well, we have Fibre!! Hurray! At long last! I can't believe it!
Our speeds have gone up from 6.02 download to 18.12 download, and from 0.86 upload to 6.32 upload. These aren't world-breaking speeds and lots of people would moan like made about them, but it depends where you were before, and we were in the realm of semaphore signals!
I haven't yet connected our new router though, so we may get higher speeds still when that's working. I'm happy enough to install the new router for both my and OH's computers, but I think I could easily end up not being able to connect the wireless printer. That doesn't worry me - I hardly ever print anything out - but it would drive OH to distraction. He prints everything, basically because he doesn't trust his computer to save anything, or thinks he won't be able to find it! I need a visit from a Grandson!

Gem - they will always have a head start on us because they grow up using the technology naturally, where we've had to learn it bit by bit. I first started using computers and learning programming in the late 60s, and I still feel as though it's all moving too fast for me to keep up!
