    Housekeeping my Computer

I've had my current desktop computer for over 5 years, so it's getting a bit long in the tooth, but I love it and want to keep it going as long as I can.

So this year I've promised it a good spring clean and tidy up. I've got a bit disorganised with where documents, photos etc are stored. I haven't updated my iTunes play list for ages, I ran out of Cloud storage, and had a bit of a problem with some software a GC has installed accidentally. It's looking like that kitchen drawer most of us have where you just chuck everything in.

So I've taken the plunge and invested about £2.50 a month on more Cloud storage, so I can now move lots of files and photos over to it, and yesterday I installed Office 365 for Mac on it, courtesy of OH's licence. If I'm honest, I didn't really think it would work - but it has. I've just opened Shemadee's lovely healthy cake recipes with it and printed them out. Result

My amazing GS1 removed the tiresome software when he was last here, so I feel I'm making progress.

My next job is to sort out my In Box and delete as much as I can.

    All good work Daisy

I have a friend who has promised to make sense of my storage. Photos are so chaotic and I find it hard to find what I'm looking for.
I need to sort out all my documents too, but I think this is something I must do.
I fear that if someone else wants to take over as secretary after the AGM (OH says it won't happen!) that I don't have a lovely organised folder of minutes and Agendas to hand over. I have them all on the laptop, but not many have I correctly moved to the file my predecessor put on for me

Daisy I am still on 99p cloud storage a month I get a message now and again to tell me it’s full up so I just delete photos I’m not too bothered about and manage to keep my monthly subscription. I don’t tend to have many files I keep a lot of things on favourites that needs a good clear out might do that tomorrow, I delete all my e mails everyday, and if it’s important I archive it , that’s as much housekeeping that I can do 😀

Gem - my photos have got in a mess because some come from my phone, some from my camera and some from other places/phones. I always used to store photos by year/month, so those are ok. I just need to remember roughly which year it was taken and then scroll through the thumbprints. It's the last 5 or 6 years that things of got disorganised.

Qwerty - your computer housekeeping is on the ball like your house-housekeeping. My OH deletes emails as soon as he's read them and he can't understand why I don't do the same. Then he says 'have you got that email so-and-so sent a year last June'

Oma - at least B sorts things out for you, and Plant I think your GS helps with tecchie jobs doesn't he.

I don't particularly enjoy doing the sorting out but it has to be done.

I can tidy the computer, but hubby usually does it.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Not sure if I've said before but I put all my photos in folders on my mobile then when I get enough I transfer them all onto my external drive. My only concern is if that breaks for any reason there's so much treasured stuff on there that I would loose.

One of my favourite things is to make order out of chaos.... not housework tho.😂

I have techno phobia. I need a resident grandchild to help me out!

Nana - you're very well organised! You could always back your photos up on to the Cloud - Google "Free Cloud Storage". Being free there's a limit to the amount of storage space you get, but it may be enough, but always wise to read the small print.

Sunshine - I'm sure you'd be delighted to have a resident grandchild even without the benefits of in-house tech support. xx

I'm affraid that I am in the same camp as Oma & Plant,to me "the cloud" is a white puffy thing I see during the summer how I envy all of those who are tech savvy.

Glamm - I often feeling I'm sinking in a quagmire of new technology - I can't keep up! It's nearly 20 years since I taught IT and everything has changed out of all recognition. We still had floppy discs when I was teaching!!

I listen to GS1 chatting about this and that, and feel I need a translator, and even then I still wouldn't understand.
