    Poorly Lap top

Last week my laptop started playing up for some strange reason and everyone knows how untechnical I am to say the least.
I did send a message to admin so I hope it was received as I had to use Johns tablet for emergencies.I will wait for Jan sales to buy a new one.
It looks as if I will have to invest in a new one as the ProperGeeks man has quoted me £199 for the job but that includes 349 for bitdefender anti virus being installed.
I have dug into my cupboards and found my old old laptop and have finally found the book which had my passwords etc so am up and running for the minute.
The guy at the shop is going to just reset my laptop to factory setting and I will use a free anti virus so the cost will be just £40ish.
Does anyone have the details of a decent anti-virus I can download or do you think the free one I get from BT (mcafee) is sufficient ?
Glad to be back on line I have missed everyone so so much feels as though my arm has been chopped off.
    Keep Calm,You're Fabulous

Hope you get sorted with the laptop soon.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Glamma, oh dear! I haven't had a message at all. I realised you were quiet but thought it was just festive busy-ness!

We are glad to have you back anyway, and I hope the laptop is back up and running soon.
I use Norton, but McAfee is a good one so you should be OK I imagine.

Glamm, I'm so sorry I didn't see you message to Admin either. Gem and I can't see Admin messages unless we specifically log in as Admin, and I've been mainly using my iPad this week which I leave logged in as Daisy. Really sorry we missed it. I thought you were just busy, too.

          I can't help you with anti-virus software, I'm afraid because I have a Mac.

Have you tried Googling some comparison sites - that might give you some help.

Glamm I have always used the anti virus software that is included in the price of BT broadband and I have never had any problems with it.
As long as to always apply all the updates and run a full scan at least once a week it should be OK .

Oh, thanks, Gem. I wonder where Glamm's message went.

Its probably still circulating about in cyber space knowing me
I think I will go with Mimi's advice and just use the software built into my BT broadband and see how we go.
                  Thanks ladies xx

Glamm - good luck. Hopefully BT are on the ball with new scams, but if you don't open links you should be fine anyway.

I must apologise. I have found the message you sent, Glamma.
It was an email to the GransRus email address and had gone into Spam. I didn't spot it until today, so I'm sorry about that!
