Baby scans at Mothercare!

    Baby scans at Mothercare!

Many of you were surprised at OH and I having blood taken at Asda, but I find scans at Mothercare even more surprising!

Until a few weeks ago I had never heard of these. My DD tells me they were actually around when she was pregnant, which was 6 years ago.
My reflexologist is pregnant and had one of these scans, which is the first I had heard of them.
This was a gender scan, designed to tell you the sex of your baby ahead of the 20 week NHS anomaly scan . They can be done at 17 or 18 weeks. You can get a photo as well. The one I saw was a pretty hideous 3D one, which looked rather like something out of the Alien film
    They offer other scans too.
Another advantage is that you can take a lot of people into the room for the scan. Our local hospital allows one only. I was lucky to be at GS2's scan with DD and SIL as one of our best friends did the scan. Once I told her the date and time, she made sure she was the one doing it

It seems a bit silly to pay to know the gender rather than wait another couple of weeks to find out for free, but each to their own I suppose!

That is surprising Gem. I've not heard of it either.

When i was pregnant, there wern't any scans then.
I was thrilled to go with DIL (now ex) when she had hers with yongest grandaughter.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Why would you want to go to Mothercare for a scan when you can have one on the NH?

Gemini DIL who has just had baby girl went for the 3D scan for gender at 17weeks and you are so right about it looking like a little alien, that was when I looked at the scan the wrong way around and had to quickly correct myself in front of DIL.
I just can't see the point because if you suspect there may be a problem you would see your Gynocologist rather than an assistant at Mothercare.
My GGS has now been signed off with the visiting midwife and he is just 20days old now,mum has to take him to a "Mums & Baby" suite within our local shopping centre if she has any quiries about his development they no longer come out to see mums & baby at home,I should imagine it is difficult if you have a couple of children in tow.

It rather backfired for my poor reflexologist friend, She wanted a daughter so much and just couldn't wait to know. The extra 2 to 3 weeks of wait was too much for her. As the result was not what she hoped and expected they all felt a little deflated, which is a shame.
My opinion has always been that if you have a strong preference for either sex, it is better to wait until the birth to find out. We all know the joy, relief and love we feel at the arrival of our baby. To find it was not the sex you hoped for would be much easier to take then I feel, rather than be told coldly months before meeting your baby. My reflexologist felt differently, as she thought having a long time to get used to it would be better. I hope she soon adjusts and can look forward to her little baby. This is a wanted baby, although she is only in her early 30s she has wanted to be a mum for some time.

Both DDs were lucky as the Health visitor & midwife both did house calls after the births. Glam I've never heard of the arrangement of going to the shopping centre. What next... a self checkup at the self service till at the supermarket? 😨

It must be very hard for mums-to-be if they desperately want a particular gender baby. I know there are sometimes medical reasons why you'd want to know whether you're carrying a boy or a girl (or more!) but once you know you can't 'unknow'. I'm glad we didn't have this technology when we were having our babies.

Is the Mothercare service a substitute for the NHS one?
