Last Wednesday my OH took me to an exhibition at the World Museum, Liverpool. He'd booked tickets to see 'China's First Emperor & the Terracotta Warriors'. The first of my birthday treats. (No wonder I'm still in bed after the last few days. B****y M.E. Worth the burn out tho').
We planned getting there & having lunch before the exhibition. Traffic bad so no time for lunch. I was really excited to see it of course & I wasn't disappointed❣OH not a great art lover but enjoyed the history of it & of course the military side of things.
It started off with a short film then we were allowed in the actual exhibit. I think we all do exhibitions differently. You see some almost running to see everything all at once before everyone else. Others take their time to read everything before looking at the exhibits. I on the other hand tend not to read much but go off into my own zone.
I take in the finest detail, form, shape, colour, beauty, mistakes, skill, wonder of the craftsmanship. Then I read into it my own story (I hear Some1's gasp from here😉) of the lives of the people who created such wonderful objects. The enormous task facing the creators. There were huge terracotta pieces & some tiny ones...all as awe inspiring. Jade & turquoise are such beautiful adornments too.
My favourite?...well hard to choose. Funnily enough it wasn't any of the Terracotta Warriors but a small clay piece depicting the story of how they made a warriors horse & a continuation of how a warrior was made. Both gigantic pieces to make when you see the scale of men v the clay pieces they made. And to think of how many times they repeated this process. What a wonder!
When I looked at the row (about 7) of warriors the gallery person asked the person behind me not to lean over the glass barrier. OH then started chatting to her about the incident in America where someone snapped off one of the warriors thumbs. I'd not heard about this. OH said it almost started off an international incident. What possible reason would anyone have to do such a stupid thing? How stupid can some people be?😠
So as you can tell, I loved my day. At some stage when I'm rested I'll search on the old Google for the exhibition & read up on it in the peace, comfort & quiet of my own home. My DD1 was lucky enough to visit China with Uni about 8yrs ago & saw the whole thing in situ. Lucky girl. She brought back about 7 small figures for me. Who knows.... if ever I conquer my fear of flying?
