We saw this on the news a couple of days ago. Not bad for a damaged painting.

I understand how rare this is but at the same time the money paid is obscene so much poverty in the world, just watching Children in Need and the sadness there is and we raise money to make their lives better, what good is a painting on a wall or even worse in a vault so much spent on a canvas how much good would that money have made to people

Qwerty - I totally agree. It's an unbelievable amount of money, and it could do so much good to help people who have got nothing. Yesterday I helped a friend to load donated sleeping bags and duvets into her car for a homeless charity to give to people sleeping rough in this cold weather. The contrast is hard to imagine.

Madness, there is some dispute as to whether it is what it porpoites to be. They think it might be bought by a Chinese man who made his millions from a taxi company

I've never really understood the obsession some people have with collecting anythings, whether it's coins, teaspoons or major works of art. I don't want all those possessions, if anything, I'd like to get rid of some of the things we already have!

And there’s no guarantee that it is by Da Vinci.

That amount of money is unimaginable and obscene to pay it for a work of art.

We are also also trying to de clutter, I have boxes of china and glasses in the loft. The DC don’t want it, we don’t need it all so it’s going to go! Dusting Daisy........what’s that 😆😜

When we had the kitchen done everything was put in the children’s room. It took so long to finish that I realised most of the stuff we didn’t really need so we got rid of it. Alas it is all creeping back. The idea that we only need two casserole dishes, one for us two and one in case family come, has gone completely out of the window when I saw a lovely set of le cruset (sp?) dishes and bought them on a whim, why have I now got two sets of sharp kitchen knives? Why have I got more tea towels than Debenhams? Why have I got loads of cookery books when I usually look it all up on line? I do have two complete Denby dinner services so when the family come we are all matching but even that seems a bit of a waste considering they re usually only here twice a year all together, I might even buy good quality chuck away plates when we do the Christmas thing (after Christmas).

We have stopped putting things things aside for “best” though. I have some really lovely crystal glasses which we never used but are now in the cupboard instead of hiding on top of the wardrobe. Must admit when we chipped the bottom of one of the wine glasses I was annoyed but never mind, it is only a glass. Hopefully by the time the children’s bedroom is redecorated and turned into a spare room/study most of the rest of the stuff will be gone. The bunks, mattresses and computer desk have all gone and now there is jut one big mess to pile through whenever we get home. Loads of paperwork that can be got rid of. We have the black glass cabinet that was in the sitting room in there, my neighbour wants it but it has all my pape and card, glue etc. in there from my schools stuff so need to find a new home for that first. She is away from 24th to 6th December so obviously it won’t go until after that.
