    Art classes

Do any of you go to art classes, or have you in the past?

Two of OH's golfing lady friends go to art classes.
We went to an art exhibition for the class members work of one of the friends. The paintings ranged from those you would love to have on your wall, to those which my 7 year old granddaughter could improve on! It was lovely for them to be able to have the exhibition and the chance to sell their work.

OH's friend sold 2 paintings over that weekend! We have one of her paintings on our dining room wall, given to OH as present and it is really good.

I have been to art classes, different mediums - watercolours, acrylics and pastels. My favourite though is pen and ink drawing but I love pastels too. Haven't a done it for a few years as our last art teacher sadly passed away suddenly and it was so hard to even think about going to someone different, I did sort out all my painting gear the other day and thought I should start doing it again. Maybe I'll start drawing again and gradually get back into painting.

I would like to try water colour painting, OH bought me some starter equipment and I had a dabble on my own but really need to go to a class but with my Guiding, Embroidery, WI, NT local group and Aqua classes I think it might be an overload, not that I do much embroidery now, just go to the talks and admire others work.

        That sounds interesting Clover

I used to go to art classes - oil painting - many, many years ago. I'd like to start again, and have been having a very amateurish go with acrylics, but it's a matter of finding the right class. I would want a complete beginners' course after all these years. I took a couple of photos when we were last in the caravan and I'd like to make them into either pen and ink drawings or possibly water colours, either of which would suit the subject matter. I've tried the various effects out in Photoshop (which is never as good as the real thing for paint effects) and I think either would work. The trouble is I can see the finished picture in my head, but I'm not at all sure I could get it right on paper. I've very tempted to borrow GS1's picture sketching toy to at least get the perspective right!

Perhaps with winter looming ahead we should all have a go!

I think talent's a bit thin on the ground in our house, Plant, but if you enjoy doing it that's the main thing.

I go to Art class once a week! I dabble in different media, but I think my favourite is pastels. Something I really enjoy doing. My teacher has a wonderful eye and her suggestions can miraculously make a paining look right!

Pastels were my favourite media for O Level art, WG.

I've never been to art classes. Not something i ever had an interest in.

WG - I've seen a couple of your pictures on FB and thought they were excellent. You can't put it all down to good teaching, you know!!

Gem - I think we only had that powdered paint for our Art O Level! I can remember having to do a very boring and traditional still life and something lie illustrating or interpreting a poem.

I did a still life (assorted nuts!) in pastels, and an abstract painting based on a cut red cabbage. I enjoyed doing them both

I think our still life was a bowl of fruit or something equally mundane. Assorted nuts and a red cabbage sound much more interesting, Gem!
