I have just read a article about how the RSPB came about
They say you learn something new every day well I did today ,

I have never really thought about it before , but it started with 3 women in 1889 protesting about the demise of birds due to the hunting of millions to adorn ladies hats ,
The Plumage trade was worth £20 million a year in Britain that's about £204 million by todays standards

These ladies fought a campaign till 1921 when it was finally made illegal to import exotic Plumage
Shocking when you think about it all in the name of fashion

Also, whalebone, tortoiseshell and Ivory can go on the ‘shocking’ list. I love the look of tortoiseshell and ivory and I’m jolly glad there are now passable substitutes.

Also the women who demanded the adornment Daisy , apparently it wasn't unknown to see dead birds on the hats like Kingfishers and Robins etc
