    Phew!

We have been concerned about Bess the border collie’s leg. She had an accident four years ago, before we took her on. Her front leg was fractured and she now has a metal plate in place. She has been limping on and off for a while. The first vet we saw said the plate had probably slipped. Our insurance would have covered the operation etc. then. Things improved with just gentle exercise for a while, so all seemed well. In the meantime our insurance changed the policy drastically. From insuring against treatment for previous injuries to not being able to claim for anything, almost, because of her age.She is 11. We cancelled it.
This week she has been very lame. We were panicking, imagining a bill running into thousands.
we went to a different vet who diagnosed a sprain! He reassured us the metal plate wouldn’t move and it was actually well above the joint anyway. We now have anti inflammatory pain killers and she is back on gentle walks for a while. At last, a little bit of luck. 😁

It's such a worry isn't it and these insurers try to get out of everything,
Is she still a active dog ? Being to energetic might be putting a strain on her old bones ,
Bless her I hope with the pain killers and anti inflammatory's she's ok

My DD said she's sure her animals know when it's pay day as one of them will limp or start vomiting or get a scabby eye 😁

Grauntie, I agree, it's a worry. Thank goodness you got a second opinion. I'm sure it's really difficult to get a BC to take it easy for a while, but hopefully the gentle walks should give her sprain chance to heal. Can you walk her on soft surfaces rather than pavements? That might help too.

We cancelled Eva's insurance for the same reason - she's also 11. The insurance companies are outrageous with pet insurance. Grrr.....

          😆at Oma’s daughter!
Daisy, you are right. She is a maniac for a ball. As soon as she sees grass she walks backwards expecting a ball to be thrown.
DDs came this morning and she was beside herself with glee until neither of them went out to play with her. She took it out on my garden shoe, which is now in two halves! 🙄.

That is a relief Grauntie. Vets can see animals very quickly which is a bonus but their fees are exorbitant and Insurance companies are a minefield.

Grauntie, there is something very endearing about an 11 year old dog who can, and does, still "like" shoes. I'm sure that's not what you thought when you found the sad remains, though.
