Neutering time

On Friday we take our kittens to be neutered.
We have signed a contract with the Rescue to have this done no later than 3 weeks of them being 6 months old. They will be 6 months old the day after the ops .
We have agreed to this and paid and of course we know it is the right and responsible thing to do and want to do it.

We are also anxious about the post operative pain ( especially for Poppy) and keeping boisterous Moses, who will presumably bounce straight back, away from his recuperating sister!

They race about and play fight constantly, and she won't be up to that for a while.
We are planning to be around for the first few days, with at least one of us here at all times. We will probably have to let Moses outside for his usual run abouts, but keep Poppy in.

I have only had female or male kitten pairs in the past, so this is a first for me

Maybe a few hours apart in separate rooms during the day may help Gem.
It's difficult as Moses won't understand that poppy won't or can't dash around for a while ,

Hopefully Poppy will recover quickly and you can relax 🥰

Gem, It's a dilemma, isn't it. I'm sure they will want to see and be with each other, which will be difficult. Is there an equivalent of dog crates for cats? If so Poppy might like the safety and peace of that.

I remember when Eva was due to be spayed the lady at the rescue centre said they always give them Arnica tablets for a couple of days before an operation as it reduced internal bruising. I don't know if that's an option for the kittens, but Eva recovered from her spay very quickly.

Gem, I'm sure you will be worried for Poppy and Moses tomorrow, but fingers crossed it will all go smoothly and they'll make quick recoveries. xx

All went well and we were able to collect the kittens after midday.
We gave them as quiet an afternoon as we could considering GS2 was here after school. Poppy was nervous and reluctant to be near anyone for the first few hours. As we expected Moses was back to normal after a couple of hours. So much simpler for males!

They seem to be eating and using the litter tray and relaxing to sleep, and Poppy happy to be with us again. I think they have forgiven us

Stitches out for Poppy in 8 to 10 days. We hope our local vet will do this.

Poppy has to stay inside for a week or so, but Moses can go out now.
He has tried to initiate play fight a couple of times, but realises she won't or can't I think. He has been very sweet cuddling up with her and gently grooming her.
We have kept the weekend free to watch over them, and at least one of us will be around every day next week.

Gem, how lovely that Moses has realised Poppy isn't in play mode at the moment. Perhaps his instinct is telling him that cuddling and grooming her will help her to recover more quickly. I hope you have a relaxing week-end with them.
